Hamptons interior design duo Mabley Handler recently debuted a stunning exotic Palm Beach guest suite titled “Welcome to the Jungle!” at this year’s Kips Bay Palm Beach Decorator Show House. “We had the pleasure of designing a bedroom suite consisting of a guest bedroom, full bathroom, and walk-in closet at this year’s show house, and we wanted to create a playful and eye-catching room that was both stylish and inviting,” shares Austin Handler. “Our imagination was stirred by the exterior architecture of the house, the style of which is reminiscent of early 1900’s homes in Palm beach, many of which had been designed by acclaimed architect Addison Mizner, known for his recognizable Spanish/Mediterranean colonial revival style.”

“Upon entering our space, we wanted visitors to feel like they walked into a historic home that has been thoughtfully refreshed… A touch of classic Palm Beach elegance, paired with approachable elements of modernism and current style – A  timeless space from a different era that is equally livable today.”

Jennifer Mabley adds, “We began this journey by customizing a spectacular paneled mural wallpaper from Gracie called “Tropics.” We chose a metallic melon back round with the palms and plants colored in a neutral palette of soft grey, sage green, and cream. From there we wanted the experience to feel layered from the floor all the way up to the extensive trellis and coffered ceiling that we custom-designed for the room. The furnishings are a curated mix of modern silhouettes with art deco fabrics from Harlequin & Zoffany, juxtaposed against modern lighting.”

“The room has multiple destinations, including a recamier to lounge on, a classic lacquered drop-down writing desk paired with a vintage rattan armchair and a grey woven canopy bed from Palecek. Touches of warm burled wood in modern forms appear as bedside tables and on the hall console. Vintage and eclectic accessories were found at Palm Beach Regency, and are sprinkled throughout the room.”

“The bathroom features a stunning Arasbescato porcelain from Primestone that we used in slab form to frame the tub and shower walls and on the entire floor of the room. The chic Kohler plumbing fixtures and floating vanity are accented by a custom handmade shell mirror from Palm Beach Home Style.”

“Stepping into the walk-in closet, we wanted to create a little surprise in the custom bar we designed, which includes a Jenn-Air beverage center installed into the California Closet cabinets. The walls of the closet feature another colorful mural wallpaper, this one from Harlequin, and we finished off the space with a polished crystal chandelier from Ro Sham Beaux… It all makes for fun and exciting place to get dressed. We hope you enjoy this whimsical journey into Mabley Handler’s vision of  the past and future styles of Palm Beach!”
