Throughout March, FreshDirect is showcasing its women-owned vendor partners and their delicious products front and center on the online grocer’s website. While women-owned businesses and their contributions to food culture are celebrated year-round at FreshDirect, Women’s History Month presents a special opportunity to amplify these accomplished women and their delicious traditions, including several Long Island business owners. Here’s a few of KDHamptons foodie favorites below:

    1. Satur Farms – Satur Farms started when owners Paulette Satur (a plant scientist) and her husband (a chef) Eberhard Müller bought their original farm on Long Island in 1997 with the goal of growing veg and herbs for Chef Müller’s New York restaurant. Today, Satur Farms produces specialty salads, leafy vegetables, root vegetables, and herbs on 250 acres on Long Island and 500 acres in the winter in Florida to deliver the freshest produce year-round. Also, as a sustainable farming operation following European farming techniques, such as mineralizing soil on tired farmland and using cover crops, they have embraced social responsibility and the role that they, as food suppliers, play in building a healthier planet.

    1. Talea – Talea Beer Co.’s story starts with two women homebrewers, LeAnn and Tara, who set out on a mission to create the sort of beers that they wanted but had a hard time finding on the market. Beers that are fruit-forward, low in bitterness, well-balanced, and easy to love and drink. FreshDirect is excited to carry their made in NYC brews, which come in cans with eye-catching designs.

    1. Nettle Meadow – Located in New York’s Adirondacks, Nettle Meadow Farm is known for producing award-winning cave-aged, fresh, and washed-rind cheeses. Their operations include an animal sanctuary, cheesemaking company, and farm land where sheep and goats are raised among lush pastures. Owners Lorraine Lambiase and Sheila Flanagan have led Nettle Meadow based on a shared love of animals, artisan cheese, and the unique challenges of farm life. They remain committed to the principles of natural ingredients, happy and healthy animals, and truly handcrafted cheese.

    1. Jeni’s – Founded in Columbus, Ohio, Jeni’s Ice Cream is devoted to making better ice cream that brings people together and makes sparks fly. They started making ice creams the ‘old fashioned’ way before it was cool – just grass-fed milk and quality ingredients. Each pint has a uniquely smooth texture and buttercream body, with a bright flavor and clean finish (no synthetic flavorings, dyes, stabilizers, or emulsifiers here). The results? A better pint with flavors you’ll love.

  1. Dam Good – Dam Good™ English Muffins is a woman-owned, family-operated, mission-driven wholesale bakery located in Peekskill, NY that makes four varieties of all natural, preservative-free, vegan sourdough English muffins. Their name references their proximity to The New Croton Dam, where they got their start making Dam Good™ tasting English muffins and doing Dam Good™ in their community and the world. Owner Denise Weale & co-founder Ross Weale started this business in part to make a difference by providing jobs and giving back to their community. “After learning how to make English muffins from a friend, it was one day in 2016, when walking and discussing returning to our culinary roots, when we came upon a single piece of trash on the sidewalk which was a Thomas’ English Muffins box, and we took this as a sign to begin our journey.”
