On July 27th, Super Saturday, the world’s most famous designer garage sale, raised $3.5 million for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Kelly Ripa, Donna Karan, and InStyle magazine hosted the shop-a-thon at Nova’s Ark Project in Watermill .  Celebrities, hamptonistas, families, and fans shopped at booths busting with goodies from over 200 prominent designers.  Kids enjoyed carnival rides, games, and crafts while adults indulged in mani-pedis, massages, gourmet treats and luxury raffles provided by InStyle, Color Club and Moraccanoil.  Leading multimedia retailer QVC broadcasted “QVC Presents Super Saturday Live,” offering home viewers nationwide the chance to get in on the action!

Lisa Chase, KDHamptons correspondent and founder of www.CelebrityEverything.com caught up with Kelly Ripa in this NEW KDHamptons Fashion Diary below:

KDHamptons: So, Kelly, today is all about supporting ovarian cancer via fashion. Do you collect anything?

Kelly Ripa: Shoes. I would say I collect shoes. I like designers that make shoes like artwork but that are also wearable. Right now I would say that is Charlotte Olympia because the toe bed is nice and wide so my feet fit in there and they’re high, so I look nice and tall.

KDHamptons: Do you know of any trends, colors or styles that you won’t wear on television?

Kelly: I try never to show my stomach – and I think we can agree everyone is thankful for that. No one wants to see that on TV. I try to wear current styles, but people are funny about darts on dresses. If you wear a dress with darts, they think they can see your nipples, and that makes people go nuts and I’m not entirely sure why. The last I checked, everything has nipples, but people go nuts.

KDHamptons: You and Mark have been going strong for many years. What’s your secret to staying together?

Kelly: He’s a great husband. We got married so young, in a way, I feel like we grew up together. When you get married young, you never know what you’re going to get. We were still forming; we were forming the way we felt about life and marriage. And between my parents and his parents, they’ve been married for more than 100 years, so the only example we’ve had is couples that love each other. He really is the most special person I’ve ever met; I worship him – I know I laugh about him on TV, but he’s an extraordinary person.

KDHamptons: So he’s really romantic?

Kelly: Yes. I’ll give you an example – I was on vacation and was with the kids and stopped for a random second to look at a pair of earrings. I stopped for a nanosecond and he must have caught it and seen me looking at these earrings, because when I got back to the hotel, he handed me the earrings.

Kelly: So you’re TV husband – you’re celebrating your one-year anniversary with Michael soon right?

Kelly: Oh yes – I keep kidding with him that it’s the diamond anniversary, but yes, we’re doing a special ‘best of’ show with the best moments. Our viewers are going to get a chance to vote, and every time they vote they are eligible for a prize to come for our anniversary show and stay in a hotel in NY and we wine and dine them – it’s a whole big thing.

KDHamptons: Are you going to get him a present?

Kelly: Maybe – maybe I’ll give him a diamond.

KDHamptons: You get asked by so many charities to lend your name to them; what draws you to hosting Super Saturday year after year?

Kelly: I lost a childhood friend years and years ago to ovarian cancer, which was misdiagnosed about 100 times. It’s reasons like that, and the fact that I’m a daughter and a sister, and I would like to never have to attend this event again.

About Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF):

Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is the oldest and largest charity in the United States funding ovarian cancer research.  Our mission is to fund scientific research that leads to more effective identification, treatment, and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer, as well as related educational and support initiatives. Each year there will be approximately 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer in the United States, and about 15,500 women will die of the disease.  Currently there is no effective means of early detection.

Since 1998, OCRF has awarded 195 grants to scientists at more than 63 leading medical centers in the U.S., an investment of over $50 million for ovarian cancer research. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, OCRF-sponsored investigators are developing innovative strategies for early detection; exploring the genetics that increase risk for ovarian cancer; understanding the underlying molecular biology of the disease; identifying new and better targets for treatment; and deciphering how and why ovarian cancer spreads, and how to stop it.
