Taste Of Two Forks: KDH Montauk Correspondent & Navy Beach Owner Leyla Marchetto Reports on the Fab Foodie Affair!

Leyla Marchetto and the Navy Beach team!

On Saturday July 14th we (Navy Beach) participated in the second annual Dan’s Taste of Two Forks for the first time… The food & wine event was hosted by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten (a friend of my father’s and one of my favorite chefs in the world) together with Nicole Miller, acting as the 2012 ambassador of TASTE!

Dan’s Taste of Two Forks has once again teamed up with Have a Heart Community Trust as the event charity partner. Headquartered in Southampton, Have a Heart works directly with dozens of local not-for-profit organizations to offer financial support to those most in need covering an area from Riverhead to Montauk, across both the North and South Forks.

Since it was a very busy night for the restaurant, we left Chef Bryan Zembreski in Montauk, and worked the event ourselves. Franklin and I, together with Luis and Karen headed West to Sayre Park in Bridgehampton where the event was being held.
After setting up our table with some Montaukian décor (sea grass from Strawberry Fields; rocks from Navy Beach, etc…) we started to get ready for the rush. I think there were 1600 guests in attendance through the night!

Our dish for the evening was “Grilled Chilled Octopus Ceviche” [above]—a special that is joining the menu at Navy Beach this week, since it has been so popular and well received. The dish got a lot of attention and many repeat visits from happy tasters.

Our partners Frank & Kristina Davis joined in after the doors opened and had a great time, too. It was a fun night, and we’re really happy we got to be a part of the event. We saw some restaurateur friends (David Loewenberg; the Lobster Roll brothers; Joe Realmuto, among others…) and got to meet some future customers as well as seeing some of our regulars. Thanks to the ladies from the North Fork’s Lieb Cellars, we even got to drink some of their lovely Bridge Lane rosé—a very welcome treat on such a hot night.

We have already started talking about what we’ll be doing for the event next year, so stay tuned!
