Camp SoulGrow, a non-profit creative camp in Montauk, recently held a 5-day camp week at Gurney’s Resort and Seawater Spa. Camp SoulGrow is a no-fee, donation-operated, volunteer-run, workshop camp offering creative learning experiences & adventures for diverse kids to inspire them and develop confidence to follow their inner dreams by utilizing community artists and local businesses as their mentors. Founded in July 2014 by Montauk resident London Rosiere, Camp SoulGrow integrates local businesses, promotes local culture, honors local history, and brings the community together in an organic way for the growth of our future. Camp SoulGrow is raising the vibration of these kids and of the community as a whole. London shares her camp photo diary with KDHamptons readers below:

London shares, “Each day the kids learned new, creative and unique skills. Tuesday we decorated King Cakes with The Candied Anchor, being that it was Fat Tuesday, we learned about the history of Mardi Gras, the reasons for the colors, traditions, and made our own Tshirts, Masks, pins, and paintings.”

“Wednesday we had an acrylic-on-canvas painting camp with Martine Langatta (of Martine and Juan) where we learned how to mix colors, different painting techniques, then had a popcorn party and performed plays/skits. Thursday we had a gardening camp with Fort Pond Native Plants, where we made our own terrariums (to keep) and learned about the different ways plants grow and how to care for them; we also learned how to paint with ink and made our own art workings,” shares London.

“Friday we had an anatomy/aerobics day with personal trainer: we learned where our bones and muscles are, and how they work in a fun game of “Anatomy Jeopardy”, then we went into the aerobics room and learned how to warmup, fun exercises, and how to stretch; followed by a chalk lesson and face painting party. Saturday I taught a hiphop/stenciling day: we learned about the history of hip hop, learned 5 different ways to stencil and trace, then we learned the hip hop dance to “It’s Like That” by RUN D.M.C.,” says London.

“The whole week was such a blast, having between 13-18 kids at each camp! Being that this is a free workshop camp for kids and we are run off of donations, we are hoping to receive donations not only from the parents of the kids that come to the camps; but from the people that understand what we are about: offering creative space for children to learn and grow strongly into their true selves without the pressure of being judged, tested, or having to commit or feel overwhelmed. They simply come to be themselves. The kids are in charge, and by not forcing them into anything, they ultimately chose to stay curious and learn more. At Camp SoulGrow, children have a sense of freedom and control, while learning new things in fun ways, therefore they are able to grow more confidently in their own creativity and independence.”
