KDHamptons contributing editor Leyla Marchetto has her finger on the pulse of the Hamptons farm to table scene. Whether she is picking out produce for her Montauk restaurant, Navy Beach, or planning a dinner party with dad, the infamous NYC restaurateur, Silvano, Leyla is always sharing her great foodie resources with KDH readers. Below, Leyla catches up with East Hampton farmer Frank Trentacoste, who owns and operates an organic vegetable farm located in Amagansett called Bhumi Farms. Frank farms without the use of pesticides or chemicals, and as he heads into his sophomore season, he wants to share some big Bhumi news in this NEW KDHamptons Diary, below:

Frank shares: “I am so happy to announce the official opening of the 2014 farm share season. It’s been a long cold hard winter, but as with everything, nothing lasts forever, and here we are again about to enjoy spring days and a fresh farm season. A few things have changed since last year.  The first thing that may have jumped out to you is that we changed our name…we are now Bhumi Farms.  The farm is growing, so adding the “S” gives me a little more flexibility going forward.  With the new name comes a new website; www.bhumifarms.com.  Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Adding, “When Bhumi started last year, I had two acres leased.  This year I am starting with 5 acres.  With the extra acreage I plan on offering you more varieties of vegetables and larger servings of the things you loved.  I’ve purchased three times more seeds than last year.  I’m really looking forward to growing for you and growing the business.”

“Bhumi Farms has also struck a partnership with the East Hampton Sports Camp @ Sportime. I will be teaching a farming elective there each week to interested campers.  I’m really excited about teaching children good eating habits before they fall prey to McDonalds, Taco Bell et al and all their catchy jingles.  I created a farm share that runs concurrent to the camp duration, so interested families will be able to pick-up their farm share while they pick-up their children. Two for one!  Some of the vegetables in the farm share will be grown and harvested by the campers..…your children!”

“We offer vegetarian cooking lessons and help you host brunch & dinner parties. Gift baskets and gift cards are also available for purchase. We aim to reconnect families with the land and build a community around organic, sustainable food,” says Frank.

KDHamptons asks Frank:  “If you could invite three people to your Hamptons home for dinner [dead or alive], whom would you choose?”

Frank: I’d invite the head of the USDA to ask him what in the world is going on with food policy in DC. I’d invite my grandpa on my dad’s side because I never got to meet him, I’d invite Newton, and I’d let him bring a guest~ and that guest would be Gwyneth Paltrow. The five of us could really have an interesting time I’m sure!
