NEW KDHamptons Design Diary: Home for the Holidays with Mabley Handler

Jennifer and Austin Handler's bucolic Hamptons home.

Hamptonites love to nest at home for the holidays. Whether we are entertaining family for the holidays, hosting parties, or setting the scene for Santa’s big arrival, curating a chic country nest is at the top of many East Enders lifestyle list.

KDH checked in with local design darlings Jennifer Mabley and Austin Handler, to see how they turned their chic Water Mill home into a winter wonderland. Known for their ‘Modern Beach” aesthetic, Austin and Jennifer always create a look that is fresh, relaxing, and very comfortable ~ even when it comes to decorating for Christmas! We are loving these adorable pix from the Handlers Hamptons holiday home, below:

Austin shares with KDH: “We always go to Lynch’s in Southampton for our Christmas supplies…It’s the kick-start of our Christmas season ever year! We get two trees, one for our house, and one for our design studio. We get large pine wreaths for our studio, and smaller boxwood wreaths with winter berries for our house.

We get boxwood garland for our mantle and for of Christmas table, and a few amaryllis and narcissus. And, we always get a selection of new Christmas ornaments for our tree. Our Christmas tree doesn’t have a style per se. We use white lights, and a random selection of ornaments that we like, and that have significance to us, says Austin. Interesting glass animals are our favorites, but the selection is varied. Jennifer’s favorite ornament is a glitter-covered metal mitten that reminds her of an ornament she had as a child, and Austin’s favorite ornament is a hand-carved Santa character created from a thin stick that he got while visiting Iceland at Christmastime many years ago.

Jennifer shares: Another Christmas tradition is that Austin usually stays up all night on Christmas Eve, wrapping presents, hanging stockings, and transforming the living room into a magical Christmas wonderland for Colin (10) and Wesley (7). A special touch this year was the personalized Santa Sacks that Jennifer found on Pottery Barn Kids. Which sold out so quickly, Pottery Barn couldn’t even fill any backorders.  [PSST! PB Kids recommend ordering them early next year…Their Christmas items actually go on sale Labor Day!]  http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/linen-santa-bags/
