KDH loves making the trip over to Shelter Island~ something about the ferry ride over makes the day that much more exciting– like a mini trip! Always looking for an excuse to cruise around the island and check out the incredible homes on Derring Harbor KDH decided to check out the new, very popular, restaurant, Salt.

Salt, owned by Shelter Island boyfriend/girlfriend duo: Keith Bavaro and Alison Bevilacqua, is decked out in chic, totally Hamptons blue and white decor. The partners, who worked together at Sweet Tomato’s, have envisioned Salt as “a casual place where you can wear your board shorts and flip flops, with the emphasis on fresh, not fancy food,” said Mr. Bavaro.

As far as the food KDH recommends the truffle french fries, hot wings, the pulled jerk chicken sandwich and Thai curry mussels….

The casual atmosphere is the perfect fix for a long day spent out on the water, as you can literally pull your boat right up to the restaurant!

“We wanted to have a lot of small plates so people could share good food and conversation and enjoy a  drink, all at reasonable prices,” Mr. Bavaro said. The restaurant has become incredibly popular with locals and visitors alike. Salt features a lively boat bar consisting of an old boat cemented into the ground with a huge stage set beside it that features live music most nights.

Next time you’re looking to spice things up head out to Salt, and enjoy the beautiful Shelter Island sunset!
