KDHamptons: How long have you been coming out to the Hamptons? Why do you love it so much?
Martha McCully: I started coming here 30 years ago, with my college roommate Gina. There was still a drive-in movie theatre in Watermill, potato fields everywhere and East Hampton was really really far.
I love it here because it’s like camp for adults.

KDH: Describe your Hamptons home, and decorating style?
MM: I live in a small farmhouse in the Village; I renovated it to be completely comfortable; I overdid the pillows, they’re everywhere.

KDH: Personal style: do you have a Hamptons “uniform”? which designer do you wear the most?
MM: My uniform is yoga clothes, spin clothes, bathing suits and long flowy dresses over them.  I’m all about jewelry.  I have a diamond circle ring from Maud jewelry (she designs rings for Steven Tyler and her jewelry is now at Turpan in East Hampton) that I wear every time I go out.  My beaded and gold necklaces are by Temple St. Clair and I just layer them at different lengths.

KDH: What is your favorite restaurant, why, what is the dish and drink you get every time?
MM:I have to say this summer I’m slightly obsessed with the crispy artichoke and lobster appetizer at Nick & Toni’s, though I’ve only had it once I can’t stop thinking about it.  Usually I’m having mussels or hangar steak at the bar at Fresno, I drink the Vernaccia white wine.  Wine doesn’t have any calories, right?

KDH: Describe your perfect day in detail [even if its a dream day], from what time you wake up…where for bkfst…beach…what you like to do…evening plans.
MM: I have a rescue kitty I brought from Venice, she wakes me up for her breakfast around 4 am.  I go back to bed and later go to Tapovana yoga in Sag Harbor for Mysore with Corey or class with Erika, or I spin at Flywheel with Marion, followed by the Venus watermelon, lime and ginger juice at Juicy Naam.  I drive back with my top down and try to take a mental picture of Long Lane so I can refer to it in the winter. I belong to Quail Hill farm so I keep my fridge stocked with fresh arugula, cucumbers and whatever else I pick there.  That’s lunch.  After working at home for a few hours I try to hit Wiborg Beach by 3 or 4, where my friends are chatting about nothing and everything.  We either stay there and drink Rose or end up at someone’s house for dinner.  Or I’ll meet a friend at Fresno or the bar at Nick & Toni’s.  I rarely sit at a table anymore.

KDH: What is the greatest part about your job? Do you live here full time in summer?
MM:The greatest part about my job is that I can live here full time in the summer.

KDH: What are the biggest differences bet Venice and the Hamptons?
MM:There are actually a lot of similarities between Venice and East Hampton, the yoga clothes and all that.  I feel so lucky I can see one ocean or another every day of the year.  And now that I spend the winter in Venice, I can’t believe how gorgeous the Hamptons are.  Seriously, there is so much more green here, more lawn, flowers, sky, and sand.  And people.

KDH: Do you have a summer anthem? mantra?
MM:I refuse to focus on the end of the summer.  That, and Flip Flops Every Day.

KDH: What are your 3 fashion or beauty items that are your summer obsession?
MM: I’m really loving the Avene line of skincare for sensitive skin.  I use the Moisturizing Mask as regular moisturizer.  I finally found a hairbrush I can get through my matted hair, Sheila Stotts “Removal” brush, designed for extensions but it works wonders on thick curly hair. I recently bought a diamond cross in Buenos Aires that I just look at, I’m too afraid that if I wear it, I’ll lose it.

KDH: Who do you admire most?
MM:I’m about to meet him.
