Growing up in Southampton, artist Lynn Mara is strongly influenced by the beautiful backdrop that the East End provides her. Lynn’s paintings are also spiritually inspired which can be seen in the vibrant and colorful flowing forms in her work. KDH loves the idea of hanging one of Lynn’s bright colored canvases in our white beach cottage on the bay, so we were excited to hear that she has a new show in the works! We got a sneak preview of the works that will be included and Lynn shared the inspiration behind the show. Here’s what the accomplished artist wants to share with KDH readers:

“Life is the Dream, dreams are just dreams…” This sign hangs over the doorway in my sister’s home. I love it! I have contemplated it over and over! And at 51, I admit, I never dreamt life could be this good! Truly! I have so much to be grateful for.

My paintings and photography are a single snapshot of moments in life. They capture ordinary people doing ordinary things within the span of an extraordinary gift: Life. Here, you will see people loving and laughing, in harmony with each other and their surroundings, breathing, in real life, wherever and however they “happen to be.” And I am part of that relationship.”

Lynn also shares that the work is connected to her faith, “Dreams are just thoughts or ideas which haven’t manifested yet. They would seem to imply that something is lacking, that life itself isn’t enough. But Life is the dream; God’s dream for us.

People become disillusioned when their ideas or dreams don’t match their reality. The tragedy is that the illusion usually appears to be one step ahead of us; like a mirage. True happiness eludes such dreamers. But Life, with all its ups and downs, joys and sorrows, winning and losing; when you really allow yourself to feel it, in all its aliveness, it is nothing short of miraculous; glorious! Think about it. Would you trade your memories for all the things that money can buy and all the dreams in the world? I wouldn’t! “
