KDH zipped into Manhattan to attend the benefit honoring Spanish writer and director Pedro Almodovar at the Museum of Modern Art [MoMA]. What a fabulous party~ we all agreed that the night felt like a “mini-Met ball” because of all the glamour gliding down the red carpet. The entire evening was underwritten by Chanel and hosted by fashion’s reigning king and queen~ Karl Lagerfeld & Anna Wintour.

Hollywood glamour girls including actresses Blake Lively, Drew Barrymore, Elizabeth Olsen, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Jessica Parker and Emma Stone showed up in style to toast the legendary filmmaker. Pedro’s movie muses Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas sent taped video messages as they are both currently on location shooting movies:

In Penelope’s message, the Spanish starlet thanked Almodovar, purring that he is single-handedly responsible for her Oscar-winning career.

Antonio shared in his video that Pedro is the director who “broke all the laws of cinematic gravity.”

The fourth filmmaker to be honored at the annual event, Almodovar won an Oscar for his 2003 film, Talk To Her.  After a tribute to all of his films, and a quirky ‘Ode to Pedro’ sung by close buddy Bruce Weber, Almodovar delivered a charming, humble speech recalling how MoMA helped him get his start in the film business 27 years ago when they premiered his first film in the United States.

Impossible to be upstaged by celebrities with stylists, the army of gorgeous Vogue girls in attendance added some serious fashion [and couture!] to the night. It was fun to catch up with old friends from my Conde Nast days! Manhattan’s official Gossip Girl, Blake Lively, took the stage in a gorgeous Chanel jacket with feathered trim and a pencil skirt to introduce the surprise musical performer~ Alicia Keys!  No surprise here: as Alicia belted out her New York! anthem, Lara Stone, Miranda Kerr, Karen Elson, and the rest of their teutonic table swayed their hair back and forth and sang along to every word.

The flowers, table decor, lighting, and design felt like a beckoning backdrop to an Almodovar scene….and there was certainly no shortage of stars on set. Best-dressed for the evening had to be gorgeous Julia Koch in a stunning black Chanel couture dress which had dancing feathery details and a plunging keyhole back.

This annual MoMA benefit “raises funds to ensure works of cinema continue to join the museum’s collection.” The chief curator of the event Raj Roy [brother of beautiful fashion designer Rachel Roy] shares that this year the event had raised more than $1 million.
