How do you distinguish dark and light from the shadows?  Southampton Art Center’s newest exhibit may help you find an answer you didn’t know was there.

Shawn Heinrichs

Entitiled Light on Shadow by Shawn Heinrichs, curated by Matthew Hockely Smith and presented with Blue Sphere Foundation opened at SAC on Saturday, May 26. Guests enjoyed Bombay Sapphire specialty cocktails, Wölffer wines, Blue Point beers, catering by Union Cantina, and music spun by Bishiclet. Heinrichs also previewed the upcoming season of the Netflix series, Tales by Light, which will feature him (and was also being shot for the series at the opening reception), followed by a conversation between Heinrichs and curator Matthew Hockley Smith.

Light on Shadow seeks to highlight the struggle that sits at the very heart of Shawn Heinrichs fine art practice. The exhibition is an intimate journey through both the beauty of marine life and the reality that threatens their existence, generating a powerful warning against complacency.

“Art is my passion, conservation is my purpose, and for me the two are inseparable. I have found art is the most powerful tool I can contribute to help protect the ocean’s most threatened species and habitats.” – Shawn Heinrichs
