The Surf Lodge in Montauk has always been a HOT spot know for live music shows, a hipster scene, and surfer dudes. This year the Lodge is back for another season under new ownership, Montauk Properties, LLC. [PSST! The new owners have promised an “improved refined lounging experience.”] On the schedule this summer at the Lodge includes Thursday nights with the Dan Bailey Tribe. KDH & crew, including: Rita Schrager, Albert Evans, & Doc, stopped by to check out the scene last week and had a blast.

The back deck came alive at sunset with high energy drum beats as the Dan Bailey Tribe took the stage. Hippy Hamptonites danced, hoola hooped, and swayed to the music in flowy sundresses, lace skirts, and gauzy tops. Godson of Grammy Award-winning drummer Babatunde Olatunji, Bailey and his band are known for their fusion of African and Latin inspired Reggae/Surf Rock. The Tribe’s loyal groupies danced around barefoot, adorning the girls with flowers in their hair and braided headbands.

Rita shares, “I don’t what was hotter: the guys, the music, the sunset, or the tequila cocktails!”

Each Thursday the band will perform from 6 to 9 pm and 10% of all bar proceeds will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation. Surf Lodge Thursdays are sure to be a KDH weekly fix, so stop by, we’ll see you there!
