For Hamptons fisherman, October is the best time, and Montauk Point is the best place to fish as anglers gear up for the “Striped Bass Catch ’round the point”.
The annual Fall Run in Montauk lures fishermen from all over the world, who come out to fish for Striped Bass as they gorge on baitfish in droves from late September through early November before migrating south. Gulls and terns are telltale signs where to find these feeding blitzes as they dive from the air for the scraps among the boils of fish. Experienced Surfcasters love to fish on the rocky shores around the lighthouse for the thrill and adrenaline rush as they rise to the challenge in landing their trophy “Cows” sweeping across the point. Sound exciting? Get in on the action!
Charter and Party Boats sailing out of Montauk Harbor are ready to take fishing fanatics [or newcomers] over to the best spots to cast hooks into the frenzy. All boats are equipped with bait, rods and experienced mates who are willing to clean and filet the catches ~ . Fishermen may also bring their bounty from the sea to selected restaurants in Montauk who offer “you hook, we cook” menu options.
