On Saturday, July 20th, the LongHouse Reserve threw its 2013 Summer Benefit “White Night.” The midsummer night celebrated the Reserve’s 22nd season and honored architect Richard Meier, activist and artist Ai Weiwei, and the late Lisa de Kooning.  Hosted by legendary textile designer Jack Lenor Larsen’s not-for-profit arboretum, art museum, sculpture garden, and educational organization.  The enchanting evening showcased East End artists, influencers, philanthropists, and cultural icons all dressed in crisp beautiful summer whites.

Long House President Dianna Benson challenged guests to “make your white architectural or Wei-Wei out. And if it glistens, sparkles and shimmers—well that’s even better. The artists are incredibly inspired by the color white, as it represents the moon, peace, freedom, and energy.

Gardens opened for art viewing just before sunset and a silent auction. Dinner and sweet serenades by world class musicians Dickie Landry (below) and Sussan Deyhim, were served under a twinkling tent by the lily pond, followed by a presentation of the LongHouse Art Leadership Award to the late Lisa de Kooning, with a screening of never-seen-before footage in her father’s studio.

“The great thing is that you never know what to expect at LongHouse,” shares LongHouse Reserve President Dianne Benson. “The only thing we promise is that your spirits will be lifted and you will become aware of things you didn’t even know you wanted to know.”
