On Saturday, August 3rd, Women’s Health Magazine and The FEED Foundation are hosting their second annual beachside bash “Party Under the Stars” at the Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf  Club. This party celebrates RUN10 FEED10, the national, philanthropic 10K event series to help fight domestic hunger.  Joggers can simply run a 10K, and feed 10 hungry people in your community!  In its inaugural year, RUN10 FEED10 raised over 1 million meals to support the cause and in 2013, and this year they hope to raise even more with OUR help!

“Party Under the Stars”  is a super fun evening which celebrate the run, hosted by Laura Frerer-Schmidt & Michele Promaulayko [publisher, editor in chief Women’s Health], and Lauren Bush Lauren, chairman of The FEED Foundation. The night will feature special guest DJ Alexandra Richards, a live Reggae band, silent auction to benefit the FEED Foundation, a beach bonfire, cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres and more. KDH catches up with Laura Frerer-Schmidt, the creator of the RUN10 FEED10 event series to learn more about her incredible fundraising feat!

KDHamptons: What inspired you to start this event series?

Laura Frerer-Schmidt: This is RUN10 FEED10’s second year. Our launch year was unexpectedly amazing, which is why it feels like we’ve been doing this for decades.  I’d been inspired to launch an event of this degree after recognizing a trend, led by women across the nation, to be healthy on every level—personally, by feeling good physically (running/working out), socially by building teams with friends and, and community by giving back to your neighborhood. The concept of RUN10 FEED10 is really simple, you run a 10K and feed 10 hungry people in your community.  Thousands of runners will join together in the fight against hunger and the money from the registration and fundraising efforts will go to their nearest metropolitan area food bank.

KDHamptons: How did you become partners with Lauren Bush Lauren in this cause?

Laura: Lauren is such an incredible example in the world of philanthropy, fashion, and health.  We wanted a partner who was as focused as we are on domestic hunger, and who represented what Women’s Health is all about—boldly making a positive change in our own lives and in the world.  Lauren is our role model.  Last year we raised over 1 million meals to support the cause and this year our goal is to surpass that.

KDHamptons: What has been the most rewarding aspect thus far from your efforts?

Laura: The most rewarding aspect is the uprising of community support from across the nation for RUN10 FEED10.  Every time I read the posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instragram and on our site from women in small towns who built teams and started new, healthier chapters in their lives –all driven by the idea of feeding local people in their communities—I get inspired!  Right now, over 50 million Americans don’t know where their next meal is coming from. By participating in RUN10 FEED10, you can make a huge impact in a very simple way.

KDHamptons: Will you both be running the race? Where and when does the race start?

Laura: Yes!  I just started training.  I’m using all the tips for running a 10K from womenshealthmag.com.  The first race is in New York, Pier 84 at Hudson River Park on September 22nd, where we shut down the Westside Highway for the race, and then hold an incredible festival.  Naya Rivera will be performing and GMA’s Ginger Zee will be broadcasting live!

KDHamptons: What do you love about the Hamptons? Do you spend your summers here?

Laura: What I love most about the Hamptons is the light…especially on the beach in the early evenings.  It feels so magical. That’s one of the reasons we chose Bridghampton Surf & Tennis for our event…it is on the most beautiful stretch of beach.  Right now my family is building a home in Montauk.  We are very excited about spending summers there!
