KDH Feast End Diary: My Visit To Mary's Marvelous East Hampton Grab & Go Shop~ It's SWEET!

Mary Schoenlein, owner and executive chef of legendary Mary’s Marvelous in Amagansett, is packing in hungry Hamptonites at her new grab-and-go shop with local seasonal focus in East Hampton. KDH popped in for lunch over the weekend and quickly realized this is the new spot for posh moms to meet up for a latte while their cute kids score candies, cookies and giggle over Instagram photos.

The chic new space has a clean, white appearance, similar to that of the Amagansett location, but with a more modern feel. A two-minute walk from the East Hampton train station and a seven-minute walk from Main Street, Mary’s Marvelous is a great spot for a quick lunch or tasty treat.

There are two parts of this Marvelous compound: walk into the right side to pick up pre-packaged food to go~ or order from a homemade array of menu options, or hit the left-side doorway for a Willy Wonka worthy display of sweet treats.

Schoenlein brings her classic chef training along with her love of Asian and Latin inspired food to her menu, often focusing on vegetable and grain dishes. We tried Mary’s Kale salad and the Eggs Colombian Frittata [scrambled eggs with scallion and tomato in a whole wheat wrap and a side of salsa]. YUM!

“Everything is made here at the store. We roast our own meats and make sandwiches fresh daily,” Mary says. Sandwiches along with their mini counterparts are a local favorite: spice-rubbed chicken breast with avocado, bacon and chipotle mayonnaise on ciabatta is sure to please. There is a large salad menu as well as smoothie menu with an original combination consisting of avocado, green tea, spinach and ginger, accurately named “The Hulk” !

Packaged “Sweet Things” selections include: Russian tea cakes, chocolate shortbread, pistachio hazelnut biscotti as well as collections of spiced nuts and other treats. Gift boxes are also available for the perfect hostess gift or Christmas present.

Schoenlein comments, “Our aim is to provide our customers with our best service. We strive to offer the best local and all natural products at fair prices. All of our soups, salads, prepared foods and baked goods are homemade from scratch the old fashioned way, the way we believe it ought to be!”

I love these dramatic red silk carnation wreaths the Mary sells.
