Chesie and her husband jump into "Smally" for date nights!

Chesie Breen is the founder and editor of Clover magazine, a public relations consultant, contributing editor for House Beautiful, a wife, and a mom of three beautiful girls. She has effortless style which comes from having incredible taste and being a great editor. KDH loves Chesie’s chic East Hampton home; her style is “cleaned up classic” which is instilled all throughout Casa Breen.

KDH loves the unique layout of Chesie’s home and how it feels so comfortable, yet at the same time, so perfectly put together. Take a personal video tour with Chesie above, and get inspired by Chesie’s great design tips!

KDH: The layout of your home is so unique, how did you decide on the architecural design?

CB: When we moved in it was actually a 70’s tear down, so I tapped my design pal Rob Southern to come check out the project. Rob has decorated several homes for us and we decided to maintain the quirky character of the house. It became a chic jigsaw design, like a scrabble board!

Chesie shares, "I have always wanted a room covered in Gracie wallpaper. I decided to have the pattern placed on parchment so the look felt more country than city."

The antique sideboard in the dining room is from English Country Antiques in Bridgehampton

KDH: You have so many interesting collections around your home. Where do you acquire them from?

CB: I love to go to Nellie’s Antiques in Amagensett to curate my mini-collections of iron stone, lustreware, majolica.

KDH: You have a fairly big family, how do you keep your home so incredibly organized and pristine?

CB: I’m constantly editing my home. Once a season, I do a full purge of the house and donate everything I edit to ARF.

Every room gets loads of light, here the sunny kitchen looks out on to the back yard.

Chesie shares, “Our home is traditionally inspired and infused with contemporary elements, especially art. Some of my favorite artists I love to collect are: Jameson Ellis, Kathryn Lynch, Karen Tompkins [whose painting hangs in the dining room], and Moises Esquenazi, whose infamous photograph of a gigantic hedgerow being trimmed hangs in my living room.”

Chesie loves chintz! Here she paired a Scalamandre fabric which she had washed and quilted for a softer look with a Patterson, Flynn & Martin honeycomb sisal rug in the living room

Brunschwig and Fils wallpaper and fabric was used throughout her daughter

KDH:  Can you give KDH readers a good tip on how to keep a home looking modern?

CB: I think the key tip to remember for keeping home design modern is: Definitely don’t be afraid of color!

KDH: You certainly aren’t afraid of color, you infuse bold choices all through out your house~ including pink for the master bedroom! Is there any truth to the idea that some colors are gender specific?

CB: Pink just suits bedrooms and contrary to popular belief pink is not just for girls. Men love pink rooms. My husband actually loves our bedroom and if the girls have a bad dream, they come sleep on our daybed.

Chesie loves curating decorative collections including sea shells, iron stone, lustreware, and majolica.

"We chose black and white Scalamandre fabric with contrast welting for the sun porch. This room always ends up being a gathering spot at our cocktail parties," says the Hamptons hostess.

KDH:  Can you share a tip on how to make a room seem larger?

CB: Yes! One of my favorites is to paint ceilings pale blue to make them seem higher.

KDH: What is your favorite part of your house?

CB: My favorite room is the sun porch. There is such great light on all four sides of the room and it is one of my favorite places to sit and read my magazines.

Chessie's love for contemporary art is shown all through out the house
Contemporary art is shown throughout the house. "Collecting east end artists is a passion of mine," says Chesie.

"I definitely have a Princess and the Pea bed! I love soft pink and my husband loves it too!"

KDH: You have created a home that is perfect for family, yet elegant enough for the chicest summer soiree. Have you entertained a lot this summer?

CB: Actually, we recently hosted Newell Turner, editor of House Beautiful magazine for a dinner party. We had flowers by Beth in Amagansett, and Peter Callahan catered the event. We had about 60 people here and the sky opened up and it poured! But it all worked out in the end…we had a great DJ, everybody piled into the house and we all ended up dancing!

"If one of my daughters has a bad dream they come upstairs and sleep on our day bed."

Chesie chose bright colored Quadrille cushions for the back veranda where she recently hosted a party for House Beautiful editor Newell Turner

KDH: If a hurricane struck the Hamptons and you could only save one thing from your home, what would it be?

CB: My T. Anthony family photo albums and the Barbie private planes for my daughters!

The whole house is only one room deep which brings light in from all four sides.

Chesie loves color in her home and her closet. Bright flowy tops, a blue Birkin bag (which little Topsy could fit in!), and eye-catching croc sandals by Alexandra Knight make up her summer uniform.
