Just in time for summer, Georgia Macmillan’s new wallpaper collection features the artist’s beautiful hand-painted designs

From the sparkling Arabian sea to the glistening desert dunes, the United Arab Emirates is an artist’s dreamscape.  Georgia Macmillan, a Dubai-based Australian creative, finds inspiration at every turn, whether it’s in her bougainvillea-filled garden or watching her children play on the white sandy beaches.

“The Georgia Macmillan Wallpaper Collection has been a year in the making and I couldn’t be happier with the results,” says the artist from her sunny studio in Dubai.  “I have always appreciated the powerful effect wallpaper has on transforming an otherwise dull space into something dramatic and memorable.  I’m excited to share my designs in the Hamptons!”

A journalist by training, Macmillan returned to her love of art seven years ago, launching Georgia Macmillan Paints, beautiful, beachy watercolors and acrylic works on canvas, most of which were commission pieces.  Two years later, she explored the concept of digitally printing her art onto fabric and launched her debut textile range – Indigo Garden and Spring Garden, named for the artist’s love of blue and the colors of Paris in spring.  The Bernalda Collection came next (inspired by the interiors of the Coppola family’s boutique hotel Palazzo Margherita in Italy’s Bernalda), followed by La Fontelina, her third collection inspired by a holiday on Capri (and a match made in heaven for Hamptonites).

“I am inspired by the beauty of desert surroundings, from the streets and gardens of Dubai, floral motifs at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, endless dunes of the Empty Quarter and the mountains and sea of Oman’s Jabal Akhdar and Zighy Bay,” says the Sydney native.

“It’s a thrill to see my original watercolor illustrations, which I painted on paper in my Dubai studio, enlarged to cover the wall of a room,” says Macmillan.  “Walking into a room wallpapered in the Indigo Garden design, for example, is like stepping into an enchanted garden of calming blue creepers and floral motifs. It’s incredibly beautiful and is proving to be one of the most popular designs from my wallpaper collection.”

With the long-anticipated Louvre Abu Dhabi now open, there’s no doubt the artist will draw upon the beauty and creativity of the first universal museum in the Arab world.
