French Beef Stew

A favorite, hearty winter dish cooked up by my great friend Elsie Reilly Nelson! Thanks for sharing the recipe Big Elsie!

[ingredients]2 pounds of lean stew beef
1 large can of tomatoes
1 large bunch of chopped green onions ( or small whole)
4 large potatoes quartered
6 carrots sliced
1/2 cup of bread crumbs
3 t. tapioca
1 t. sugar
1 t. salt
1/3 t. pepper
pinch of thyme
1-2 cups mushrooms
1/2 cup of red wine[/ingredients]

[instructions]Place lean stew beef in a bean pot. Add can of tomatoes, green onions, potatoes, carrots slices, crumbs, tapioca, sugar, salt, pepper, pinch of thyme, oregano and marjoram. Cover tightly bake at 250 degrees for 5 hours. In the last half hour add mushrooms and red wine.[/instructions]
