NEWS FLASH: KDHamptons welcomes Leyla Marchetto to our team as our official new Montauk Correspondent!

Born and raised in Greenwich Village, Leyla Marchetto would have never dreamed she’d end up living in Montauk! And even through she grew up in the restaurant world [with an uber famous father in the restaurant business~ Manhattan’s Da Silvano!] she never thought she’d own a restaurant either! Well…..she was wrong on both counts!

Since graduating from Georgetown University, Leyla has worked in and around public relations for various lifestyle and hospitality clients including Thompson Hotels, Hotel St. Barth Isle de France, the Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals, and the Brit brands Lulu Guiness and Cath Kidston. After a stint working for rocker Lenny Kravitz’s design firm Kravitz Design, Leyla decided to switch gears and follow in her father’s footsteps. [“sort of!”]

In 2010, together with her then fiancée Franklin Ferguson, and friends Frank and Kristina Davis, Marchetto opened Navy Beach, which in two short summers has become the designated destination for style mavens, models, East End celebs, foodies and the chicest of Hamptons beach bums & surfer dudes!

Now happily residing year-round in Montauk, Leyla is a freelance writer for various publications including Hamptons, NextStop, and Boating Times Long Island. Off-season, she and Franklin enjoy traveling, spending time with their puppy Mochi, and making plans for future restaurant projects.

We are so thrilled to welcome Leyla to the KDHamptons Crew! Here is her first official KDH Diary from Memorial Day weekend….enjoy!

My Memorial Day Weekend Diary: May 25-28 by Leyla Marchetto

Friday, May 25:

7:am: I make breakfast with Franklin in our kitchen

8am: I finish planting the flowers at home [from Cathy Warren at Broadview Gardens]

10am: I catch up on some work for my East End Eats posts for Hamptons Magazine

1pm: I head to East Hampton with Navy Beach Director of Operations Martin Cabrera, to run some errands for the restaurant

3pm: We grab a late lunch [delicious shrimp burrito] from Bliss Kitchen

6pm: I head over to the restaurant to say hi to my friend Lisa Manice who is eating with Navy Beach regulars Harry and Laura Slatkin.

8pm: I catch the sunset with Franklin [below] before heading home early, to rest up for the weekend!

Saturday, May 26:

7am: Mochi wakes me up with a wet kiss and a fashion show

8am: I water the newly planted plants and unpack the loads of groceries we got from Peapod.

Noon: I ride the electric Ferrari bike my dad gave me over to Navy Beach to see how its going and have lunch while I wait for my dad [Da Silvano’s Silvano Marchetto] to get to Montauk.

2pm: I catch some sun on our unfinished deck [at home], which is being built by our friend and local Montauk contractor Chris Behan.

4pm: Dad shows up with goodies! He has truffles, a giant can of Tuscan olive oil and 100 of our favorite “filoncini” [mini baguettes] fresh from Batali’s bakery. I bag them up to freeze at home. YAY!

6:30pm: We head over to Navy Beach with dad [below] for an early-ish dinner while we watch the sunset.

7:45pm: Photographer Zev Starr-Tambor [below] is at the restaurant shooting some photos and B-roll for our Hamptons Free Ride video spot that will be live on the Montauk route in the next week or so!

Sunday, May 27:

12pm: Dad and I head over to Westlake Clam & Chowder House for some oysters and sushi. We sit at the outdoor bar, where Kat is working, and sip on some local (North Fork) Lieb Cellars rosé while we eat.

3pm: We head over to Navy Beach to say hi to Rachelle Hruska Macpherson and Sean Macpherson who are having lunch there with their baby boy Maxwell and friends.

5pm: Dad and I make a run to the Montauk IGA to pick up tons of raspberries and blackberries, since the restaurant has been so busy – apparently the Marganegras were selling like crazy today!

6pm: Dad and I head to the Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf Club [below], winding around in the back roads through Amagansett and Sagaponack, to go to Jason and Haley Binn’s party for their new magazine Du Jour, launching this fall.

8pm: After we get back from Bridgehampton, we pop over to Crow’s Nest [Sean Macpherson’s restaurant and hotel on Lake Montauk] for a bite. Celine seats us right away… [thank you Celine!] Chef Jeff Schwarz brings us a yummy dish of spiced chickpeas to nibble on while we wait for dinner.

9:30pm: I drop dad off at home and head over to Navy Beach to check in and pick up Franklin. Its still hopping inside – great vibe, everyone is having a great time and happy that they survived the mayhem!

11pm: We pass by Ruschmeyer’s on the way home and run into Ben (Pundole) and Rob (McKinley), and can’t believe how busy it still is there!

Monday, May 28:

9:30am: wake up late, too much fun last night…

10:30am: Dad whips up scrambled egg whites with truffles YUM! that he brought out from Da Silvano, while I set the table.

12pm: drive over to Navy Beach with dad to get some sun. It’s a perfect day to be on the water – it is so calm, really hot, and a few boats are anchored in the bay in front of the restaurant.

1:30pm I head home and get my stand up paddleboard for my first paddle in 2012!

4pm: Dad and I head to St. Peter’s Catch to pick up some fresh swordfish, corn and tomatoes to make dinner at home with Franklin, on one of his [very rare] night’s off from the restaurant.

8pm: Dad goes to sleep really early, so Franklin and Mochi and I veg out on the couch watching Sunday’s episode of AMC’s The Killing, followed by the film Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. [I cry, as usual!]

11pm: We pass out. Memorial Day weekend is officially over! Hallelujah!
