The Garden Conservancy Announces Private Garden Tour Program Beginning Saturday, May 10th

The Garden Conservancy is pleased to announce our upcoming Open Days program private garden tours in Suffolk County, NY beginning Saturday, May 10th in East Hampton, Stony Brook, and Wainscott. Explore six beautiful private gardens in East Hampton, Stony Brook, and Wainscott, open to the public for self-guided tours to benefit the Garden Conservancy. No reservations required; rain or shine. Highlights include woodland gardens with flowering shrubs and trees, pools, ponds and waterfalls, unexpected sculpture, and extensive bulb plantings.

 

 

 

 

Event Details:

When: Saturday, May 10; 10 a.m. (ending times vary)

Where: Visitors may begin at any of the following locations: Garden of Abby Jane Brody, 44 Glade Road, East Hampton, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Garden of Dianne B., 86 Davids Lane, East Hampton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Garden of Margaret Kerr, 1006 Springs Fireplace Road, East Hampton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Biercuk & Luckey Garden, 18 Sayres Path, Wainscott, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sue Bottigheimer’s Garden, 61 Cedar Street, Stony Brook, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or Robert & Hélène’s Garden on Hollow Road, 67 Hollow Road, Stony Brook, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $5 per garden; children 12 & under free

The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program has been opening the gates to America’s best private gardens since 1995. Our 2014 season features more than 325 gardens in 22 states. Admission fees at each garden support the expansion of the Open Days Program around the country and helps build awareness of the Garden Conservancy’s work of preserving exceptional American gardens such as Rocky Hills in Mt. Kisco, NY, as well as fourteen other preservation projects.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Visitors may begin the tour on May 10th at any of the following locations:


* Garden of Abby Jane Brody, 44 Glade Road, East Hampton, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – daphnes, epimedium, fragrant rhododendrons, and other shade-loving plants add color to a native woodland setting.

 

* Garden of Dianne B., 86 Davids Lane, East Hampton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – thousands of bulbs, tree peonies, Japanese maples and other specimen trees, unexpected sculptures, and dramatic vignettes at the property of a “garden stylist.”

 

* Garden of Margaret Kerr, 1006 Springs Fireplace Road, East Hampton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – a collection of plants grown in the Middle Ages, brick rug sculptures incorporated into the garden, espaliered pear trees, and views of the wetlands of Accabonack Harbor.

 

* Biercuk & Luckey Garden, 18 Sayres Path, Wainscott, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – a four-season woodland garden under a high oak canopy, winding paths and stone walls, and a pond-like pool and waterfall.

 

* Sue Bottigheimer’s Garden, 61 Cedar Street, Stony Brook, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – exuberantly blooming azaleas, columbine and other rare plants along wooded paths, raised beds for various microclimates, and park-like borrowed views.

 

* Robert & Hélène’s Garden, on Hollow Road, 67 Hollow Road, Stony Brook, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – a sloped property with stacked rock walls for terracing, as well as climbing roses, clematis, akebia, and trumpet vine adorning fences, trees, and arbors
