KDHamptons catches up with Sag Harbor resident Susan Beischel, Owner/President/Creative Director of the luxury clothing collection, Skin, a global lifestyle brand encompassing lingerie, accessories and clothing made from the softest natural fabrics, and organic cotton materials.

Drawing inspiration from nature, Susan’s collection includes items that can be worn to sleep, to lunch and to go from day to night. She shares, “We lead such hectic lives. I want to offer the world a soothing palette of clothing to comfort and cocoon in 24/7. Our skin is the largest organ of the body; we should address it with luxurious fabrics every day to feel comfortable living our best lives.”

KDHamptons: How long have you been coming to the Hamptons? Why do you love it so much?

Susan Beischel: Since 2006. It’s my place to escape and relax. I love the beach, nature, farm fresh food and being with my friends there.

KDHamptons: Please describe your brand for our readers.

Susan: Skin is a sophisticated comfortable brand of clothing and accessories that cocoons you in the softest pima and organic cotton fabrics. It is brand for every day and every wear living. We cover you 24.7 in perfect weights and shapes starting with silky soft organic cotton underwear, and casual clothing to chemises and dresses for dinner.

KDHamptons: How would you describe your personal style? Do you have a Hamptons “uniform”?

Susan: I only wear Skin, because I like to live simply. I wear Skin to bed, skin to yoga, Skin to the beach, and Skin to dinner. I wear my robe as a tshirt, a beach cover up and like a mini dress with sandals.

KDHamptons: What inspires your collections?

Susan: Definitely nature. First, I find the “space” to create in nature, as the quite peace that nature provides cleanses my palette and opens my mind for new ideas to come in. I am inspired to create a “complete” collection that mirrors the perfection I find in nature. I think that you can find all life lessons in nature, and therefore I strive to find all life’s clothing options in the skin collection.

KDHamptons: Please describe your perfect Hamptons day in detail?

Susan: I love to get up with the sun, and say good morning to the happy singing birds. Then a yoga class under a tent in the sculpture garden within a vineyard, while deer pass through the field, followed by a fresh green vegetable juice for breakfast. A hike in the dunes discovering wild flowers and vistas, and then a wander about the local shops for interesting treasures, a stop at an organic farm for fresh local produce for the evening dinner….. and a late afternoon nap on the beach dosing in and out of my current book, staying to say good bye to the sun as it sets. A few friends gathering to cook an intimate dinner, eating outside under the stars laughing and chatting about interesting things……then early to bed between pima cotton sheets. This is my perfect day!

KDHamptons: Do you like to entertain at home? Who cooks?

Susan: I like small gatherings either at my house, or a friends house, and dinner on the beach as much as possible. I rarely go out to restaurants. All my friends cook and we all cook together.

KDHamptons: What is your favorite Hamptons restaurant?

Susan: If we do go out, my favorite restaurant is Tutto Il Giorno in Sag Harbor. Like Anais Nin, I prefer tiny, quiet places, with candle light and intimacy.

KDHamptons: Please describe your Hamptons home and decorating style? Favorite item?

Susan: I share a home with a friend who had already decorated the home before I moved in. But my style is zen, clean and modern. I prefer my environment to feel like I live in a resort in the Caribbean. I like a lot of white, taupe, gray, and lots of art in neutral colors.

KDHamptons: What is your favorite item you have designed?

Susan: The tulip shaped slubbed cotton jersey wrap hooded robe/dress…I think my friends will be sick of seeing me in it all summer long. I’m getting one in black and one in white. I can see myself wearing it as a dress running around town day and night, a beach cover up, and sleeping in it at the end of the day.

KDHamptons: If you could invite three people to your Hamptons home for dinner [dead or alive], who would you choose?

Susan: I would love to have a salon with Einstein, Dalai Lama and Angelina Jolie. Beauty, Brains, and Bodhisattva in all three!
