The Surf Lodge is hosting a weekend tribute to creating awareness and celebrating our beloved ocean. This year, World Oceans Day, June 8th 2018 is focused on the conservation action of ‘Encouraging solutions to plastic pollution and preventing marine litter for a healthier ocean and better future.’ Giving a voice to this cause is the premise and focus behind the weekend’s planned events.

“I believe every year the Surf Lodge has evolved and taken more responsibility to educate ourselves and connect people,” said Jayma Cardoso (above), owner of the Surf Lodge. “This year, and for years to come, the Surf Lodge is committed to supporting sustainable, environmentally friendly products and services.”

“As a grassroots organization that works with local communities to build scalable change from the ground up, we’re excited to work together with JUST Water and the Surf Lodge to help protect our ocean and coasts,” said Dr. Chad Nelsen, CEO of the Surfrider Foundation. “Support for the weekend events will have a lasting impact on the protection of clean water and healthy beaches.”

The weekend activities are highlighted by JUST co-founder Jaden Smith’s performance on Saturday evening on the deck, a fundraising dinner with the Surfrider Foundation, Montauk beach cleanup and group discussion led by the Surfrider Foundation’s CEO, Chad Nelsen, with Jaden Smith, DJ Crespo and professional surfers Evan Valiere and Quincy Davis. The event will culminate on Sunday with a women’s wellness ‘Traditional Water Tea Ceremony’ and Ocean Lovers Brunch hosted by Cynthia Rowley and Jayma Cardoso.

The Surf Lodge has given rise to sustainable efforts for the 2018 season, with the pledge to significantly reduce their plastic use by eliminating single-use plastics on premise and bringing in sustainable JUST Water as the exclusive water of the property. In addition, the property is using environmentally friendly plant-based bath amenities from Seed Phyto Nutrients and focusing on supporting sustainable initiatives, which includes working in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation.

The Montauk beach cleanup, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island Chapter, JUST Water team and the Surf Lodge team, is a free event that will be open to the public starting at 8am EST on Sunday, June 10. For more information or to get involved, visit Surfrider ELI or Surfrider.org.
