KDHamptons: How long have you been coming to the Hamptons?
Sue Devitt: 15 years. Since I moved to NYC.

KDH: Why do you love it so much?
SD: I love the ocean, the open fields and that the lifestyle here is all about natural farm produce, healthy living and outdoor sports.

KDH: You’re an awesome Aussie, what is the biggest difference or commonality between Australia and the Hamptons ?
SD: The ocean, the open fields and that the lifestyle here is all about natural farm produce, healthy living and outdoor sports – It’s the closest culture I could find in the US to Australia, but with the international NYC buzz close by, which is what I like. I like the energy of the city and the relaxed, healthy vibe of the Hamptons. It is my perfect world.

KDH: Please describe your Hamptons home and decorating style?
SD: An eclectic mix of laid back Australian and found items from my travels worldwide, particularly Africa. [think Zanzibar].  My style is chill, textured and very comfortable.

KDH: Which designer do you wear the most in the Hamptons?
SD: I like the Michael Kors store, Calypso, and always find a great piece or two from Ralph Lauren.  I also like to shop at The Perfect Purse in Southampton.

KDH: What is your favorite restaurant?
SD: I have a few. I love Tutto Il Giorno in Southampton. Walter is fantastic and always manages to find me a table outside in the most perfect location. The food is fresh and delicious. I also love Nobu, especially the Hamachi Jalapeno with lime. I think the sake in the bamboo containers are cool. Very visual, crisp and a delicious compliment to the fresh fish.

KDH: Describe your perfect day in detail [even if its a dream day], from breakfast to evening plans.
SD: I get up, make a quick iced coffee at home and take it over to Halsey Beach around 7:30am. It’s really quiet and peaceful and the sun isn’t too severe, so there’s little chance to exposure. I sometimes do a walking meditation along to Road D. I get back home in time to meet my girls for a tennis match followed by a bike ride down Meadow Lane.

Go home, shower, laze around for a bit and then meet my friends for lunch somewhere in town, Tutto or Sant Ambroeus. May take a walk in town, pick up a few essentials and head home for a lazy afternoon. Around 4 or so, I would apply my Microquatic Lactic Acid Peel, followed by my Oxygen Infusion masque and Pro-Juvenation face and eye concentrate, then take a 15 -20 min power nap or have a massage. After that I may clip some fresh flowers from any of my cutting gardens and then snip some fresh herbs and prepare the Rose, the coals, greet my friends and bbq a dinner for 10 or 20. Often I will zip out to a cocktail party in between or a benefit. Sometimes, I cook for friends, sometimes they cook for me. We are all foodies and enjoy all of the natural wonders of our life here in the Hamptons.

KDH: Please describe your brand, how does the Hamptons inspire your product?
SD: The Sue Devitt Beauty brand is a full scale Cosmetic and Skin Care line infused with powerful anti-aging ingredients, soothing marine properties and flower derivatives from nature. It’s beautifying and healing at the same time, the colors are rich and vibrant and inspired by nature. My Microquatic skin care series was inspired by my travels to the oceans around the world, from the Hamptons, to the Great Barrier Reef to Mauritius and beyond and the soothing healing properties that Marine ingredients offer.

KDH: What is the greatest part about your job? Do you live here full time in summer?
SD: The greatest part of my job is that I am able to create products that genuinely improve the quality of my friends and customers lives. Products that are of a very high quality, performance and are very experiential. It keeps me stimulated creatively and keeps the ladies happy and well looked after. It’s a very healthy, positive career choice and my company is global so I get to travel all around the world meeting customers, press and my retail partners. I live 4 days a week in Southampton, year round.

KDH: What do you value the most? Whom do you admire most?
SD: I value my freedom, my family and my friends the most. I truly value everyone that works with me at the company and all of our wonderful customers, suppliers and friends. You wouldn’t believe the stories of inspiration that I receive on a daily basis, it’s very energizing. We have truly created something of great value to so many people, that’s extremely rewarding in and of itself. There is not one person that I admire more than another. I have met so many inspiring people – from the Dali Lama, to President Clinton, Obama, Nelson Mandela, Mick Jagger, really it would be too hard to choose!

KDH: How do you “do it all” ? Share a couple tips for busy readers?
SD: By balancing my schedule between work, travel and my personal life. Eating healthily, meditating, yoga, sports. Staying active, and doing what I love.

KDH: Do you have a favorite destination for fun in the Hamptons?
SD: The outdoor concert series and film screenings at Surf Lodge in Montauk are always a great time.

KDH: What is your favorite way to indulge yourself?
SD: When I’m looking to treat myself I’ll have a Thai yoga massage at home, or read an interesting book in my hammock to relax.

KDH: Do you have a favorite meal you like to whip up?
SD: I usually spend Sunday mornings at the Farmer’s Market choosing fresh local produce that I do not grow myself, like the zucchini blossom flowers – they are amazing tossed in locally made spinach linguine.

KDH: How do you like to end your day?
SD: I always enjoy taking a sailboat to Sunset Beach for end of day cocktails.

KDH: Do you have a summer anthem? mantra?
SD:
Yes. Enjoy and savor every moment!
