Popular Hamptons fitness studio SLT [Strength, Lengthen, and Tone] was founded in 2011 by Amanda Freeman [above], who began her career as a trend forecaster at The Intelligence Group and co-founded Vital Juice, the leading health and wellness daily e-newsletter focused on delivering the latest in trends, research and tips in the areas of fitness, beauty, nutrition and wellness. A favorite fitness method among Hollywood’s hottest bodies including Sofia Vergara, Kyra Sedgwick, and Chrissy Teigen, this Megaformer based workout uses a system of springs, straps and bungee cords to systematically work your entire body. KDHamptons talks to the beauty behind the brand in this exclusive new fitness diary below.

KDHamptons: Where do you live in the Hamptons, and what do you love most about the East End?
Amanda Freeman: I recently bought a house in Wainscott, but have rented houses in the Hamptons for over a decade and have lived everywhere from Water Mill to East Hampton. The Hamptons is my happy place. I love walking on the beach, paddle boarding on the bay, playing tennis outside, swimming in the pool, eating yummy food, and spending chill time with friends and family. Basically, I love everything except the traffic.

KDHamptons: SLT has ten studio locations as they continue to grow. when did you open SLT on the East End? What has the response been like so far?
Amanda Freeman: The first SLT Hamptons studio was opened in Water Mill in 2013. Because we had such a strong and loyal following at our NYC studios at the time, the studio was busy from the start. Last summer, we added an East Hampton studio, which continues to get busier and busier and may be my favorite of all our studios. There are 12 Megaformers and so much natural light coming in. The room is warm, welcoming and spacious. We are hoping to open a Southampton studio very soon.

KDHamptons: Please describe the concept of SLT in a few sentences for readers who have not heard of SLT ?
Amanda Freeman: SLT is unlike any workout out there…we like to say it’s Pilates on Crack!  It is done on a machine called a Megaformer which requires constant engagement of the core. You’ll work muscles you’ve never felt before and be sore for days after each workout. It’s 50-minutes, low-impact and you will get the strengthening, lengthening and toning reSuLTs you have always wanted. If Cardio, Strength Training, and Pilates had a baby…it would be SLT.

KDHamptons: Who is the perfect client for the SLT program?
Amanda Freeman: SLT is the ideal workout for anyone looking to get toned and stronger, but in a non-bulking way. It is a challenging workout, so it’s probably not the best entry level workout. But for men and women who are seeking a core-intensive, full body workout that they will feel instantly, SLT is the best.

KDHamptons: Share a few of your favorite spots on the East End?
Amanda Freeman: Here’s my Top Four…

  1. Fairview Farm at Mecox This is one of the best farm stands in the Hamptons. My staples are the Challah and the pies. The owner, Harry, is famous for the addictive Challah that comes in an array of flavors including sea salt, raisin, whole wheat and chocolate chip. And the seasonal pies are so tasty, I some times eat an entire one myself (over the course of a few days, of course).

2. Duryea’s What’s most surprising about the Hamptons is that there aren’t enough restaurants with water views. Duryea’s has remained under the radar despite offering the best Montauk sunsets, lobster, steamers and corn. There’s something refreshing about the fact that it’s BYOB and super low key.

 Beach

3. Town Line Beach I love to start my mornings with a beach walk and my favorite spot is Town Line Beach. It never gets very crowded, especially in the morning, so I feel like it’s my own beach. If only they added a bathroom and snack bar and I could stay all day. It’s also a great place for an evening bonfire.

The Palm

4. The Palm One of the great things about the Hamptons is that you have the option of being super social or anti-social. For those nights when I want to go to dinner, see everyone I know and be gluttonous, I head to The Palm. It’s the ideal spot for group dinners. You can go home at 10 PM and feel like you’ve had a big night out.

KDHamptons: Any exciting SLT news you can tell us about?
Amanda Freeman: We are working to finalize a brand new studio in Southampton opening asap. Stay tuned for details on our website.
