#1: Send a physical invite. I know it sounds simple, and a very basic element that one could not “forget”. There are some things that will never go out of style, and one of those is a beautifully hand-engraved invitation. Your guests will appreciate it more than you can imagine.

#2: Have your invitations “hand cancelled” at the Post Office. It is less likely to leave your envelopes torn, smudged, or with bent corners.

#3: In the digital age information moves fast, but try to let the first announcement of your engagement be over written or spoken word to those loved ones most important to you. It adds a lovely personal touch for family and close friends.

#4: With regard to the announcement, your Save the Date should be in the mail roughly 6 mos. prior to your ceremony. This allows your guests ample time plan to attend. The Invitation to the ceremony should be mailed out approximately 2 months before the ceremony.

#5: Don’t have a “B-list”. There may be an urge to create a backup list for those who are invited and are unable to attend, don’t. It can cause a wealth of awkwardness if there is a mix up in mailing invitations, and is considered improper etiquette.

#6: Remember to stamp the envelope for the response card. It’s a tiny detail, yet it’s a very important one. It can be a slight inconvenience for your recipient if they have to go digging for a stamp.

#7: Dress codes are an essential aspect to the feel of your wedding. Black tie means, black tie, and absolutely no shorts! Make sure your guests know what the requirements are by adding the dress code to your invitation as well as listing it on your website. More places your guests can access the information, the better.

#8: Host your out-of-towners with a dinner or evening toast. It’s a gracious way to show your appreciation for long way they have traveled for your special day.

#9: Do not forget a “Thank You” note to your guests. Send it in a timely manner, and be sure to include specific anecdotes you have from the wedding with this person. A personal “Thank You” goes much further than a general note, and will be appreciated much more.

#10: Make your “Thank You” note personal. Include anecdotes from the day of, note what they gave you, and make sure that you send it promptly.
