Leyla and Mochi settle in for an afternoon nap

KDHamptons Montauk correspondent Leyla Marchetto [above] decided to take a week off from navigating the season opening plans for her restaurant, Navy Beach, to spend some sunny relaxing days sailing around the Caribbean with friends onboard the gorgeous catamaran, Heron.  Armed with a camera, paddle board, and a glass of rose in hand, Leyla shares her KDHamptons Travel Diary below:

Leyla shares: Just before the season got started with the opening of Navy Beach on Friday April 26, I was able to escape down to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands to visit our pals Shannon and Cameron McLellan on board their awesome catamaran Heron, which they charter for luxury sails in the Caribbean over the winter and in Sag Harbor and Montauk in the summer!

My husband Franklin wasn’t able to make the trip because he and his brother and sister were doing a triathalon ink Miami, so our friend and partner Martin came along with our dog Mochi [below]!

We had such a great time with Shannon and Cameron [below], sailing from St.. Thomas, to St. John and Jost Van Dyke where we visited great beach bars One Love and Foxy’s.

Check out the water temp!!

From St. John we sailed down to Norman Island where we went paddle boarding and snorkeling in the caves, and then did some sunset cocktails at an amazing spot called Pirate’s Bight [below].

That night we had a hysterical time having “after dark drinks” aboard the Willy T [below].

To celebrate our “Last Supper” before heading to the airport, we toasted with giant cocktails at a really cool Mexican spot in St. Thomas called Greengos Caribbean Cantina [below].

Mochi and Mom are rested & ready to reopen Navy Beach!!!

Even Mochi had a great time – she went swimming and paddle boarding with us and by the end of the last day, she didn’t want to get off the boat to come home. It was a great way to wind down and gear up for the summer season ahead. Shannon and Cameron are sailing up to the Hamptons in a few weeks and will be heading straight for Navy Beach [below] like they did last season– we can’t wait!
