NEW KDHamptons September Diary from Blonde In The Boro

SHARE

BlondeintheboroKDHamptons loves keeping up with the antics of Madge Allison aka @blondeintheboro, a self-described “single and out to mingle 25-year-old blonde; hustling in Manhattan and chilling in Montauk.” During the week, Madge works for a men’s fashion label and on her blog BlondeintheBoro, but on the weekends you’ll find her working on her MTK bronze, and burning calories on the dancefloor at any given opportunity. Madge shares her September diary with KDHamptons, below…

According to the masses, summer vibes should be officially zapped and the season done away with come the Tuesday post LDW. It’s quite a depressing way to live to be honest. Fortunately, I have never been a fan of mass opinion & standards – so summer will end when I feel like it. The weather’s still steamy, the waves are warm, and the sun is shining. As long as I can still layout and work on my beloved bronze + blondage combo and strutting to the subway breaks a sweat; I say summer is alive and kickin’. That being said I’ll be continuing my time out East through what I like to call #SummerinSeptember. I swear I’ll return to the boro at some point.

Aside from living the “summer is a mindset, not a season” mantra; New York Fashion Week certainly doesn’t hurt the transition. Coming from the soft sands of the East End to the harsh concrete streets of The City can be brutal – I prefer to gracefully ebb & flow from one to the next. #NYFW makes returning to the hustle of Manhattan a tolerable next move. Attending the shows, events, & after parties; assessing the #streetstyle brushing by you on the sidewalks; gallivanting into the wee hours of a school night with celebs (A-D List alike) – it all reminds us of why we fell in love with this city in the first place. Like an old flame, our obsession with the Big Apple ignites yet again and we’re drawn back in. Manhattan – you’ll be the death of me and I love you for it.

tyga

Tommy Hilfiger /Alexander Wang / Refinery29, along with many other big names in fashion, have taken a new approach to NYFW this year – making events more interactive and accessible to the consumers they are aiming to target. Speaking of targets, the Target x IMG Models kickoff party I attended transformed the park at Moynihan Station into a cabaret style lounge with impromptu live performances and celeb appearances. Twitter’s #CreatorFirst social media party turned their cafeteria into a techie lounge filled with all sorts of online conversation starting activities and swag. I could get used to these events catering to the easily distracted millennial – not only were they more fun but celebs and common folk alike seemed way more relaxed in this environment and down to have a good time.

Of course nothing has changed with the Kardashian / Jenner clan – arriving late with their entire entourage to support Tyga as he performed at New York New York’s party at Up & Down. Kylie is blonde now, bandana wearing Scott Disick thinks he’s still at burning man, and Jonathan Cheban had Kim by his side via FaceTime. Some things never change…

Kanye

Considering Yeezy can’t do anything unnoticed (nor does he like to), you’ve probably already heard that he stopped by Liar’s Saloon last weekend in Montauk. He’s rumored to be filming his latest music video in Montauk so looks like we could be seeing more of him…Can’t believe I’m saying this, but he played it low key & almost slipped by undetected by even yours truly. Friends aware of his presence only via the grapevine pointed my focus over to the picnic tables on the outskirts of the local watering hole only to find Kanye…alone…modestly chillin behind the cover of his two burly bodyguards. They were all dressed in neutral laidback sweats and easy to miss.  I asked Yeezy about his recent fashion show – which has been ripped to shreds by the press.  Feeling for the guy, I applauded his efforts and even threw in a pat on the back followed by “all press is good press Kanye”. That got a rise outta him….looks like Kanye gets knocked down just as easily as you and I peeps.

AWOW

Walking on Water: Forget Kanye – the highlight of my weekend was taking part in “A Walk on Water” charity. Founded in CA as a program to bring smiles and good vibrations to kids with special needs, #AWOW seriously is doing a magical thing. Ringleaders & CA natives, Steven “Lippy” Lippman & Sean Swentek, hit the East End this past weekend for their annual Montauk event at Ditch Plains Beach. With a little guidance, kids of all ages threw on their wetsuits and threw up the shaka sign. Whether volunteering in the water or cheerleading on the shore, seeing these kids and their families having the time of their life was pretty dope. On Sunday, one mother recalled being told her son would never be able to walk, and here she was snapping pics of him out surfing and crushing it at that! Truly a surreal event to witness and for such a great cause. A silent auction and cocktail benefit was held later on at The Montauk Beach House where volunteers and supporters got to hang loose. One too many margaritas may have been had, but hey all proceeds went to the organization. #ItsForTheKids

girltauk

Underneath It All: Located down by the docks, boho chic boutique Girltauk, Inc. has been keeping MTK mermaids looking hot all summer long. Founded by local sisters, Lisa & Cara Rooney, Girltauk carries everything a girl could want or need while out on the East End. They recently partnered up with lingerie brand True & Co, a favorite amongst fashion bloggers, to launch a new line of intimates. I’ll be stocking up this weekend for the fall.

Montauk Point LIghthouse

Stranger Things are Happening: Approaching its second season on Netflix, sci-fi thriller “Stranger Things” is based off a true story originating in none other than Montauk, NY. The shows plot plays on the questionable government testing & supernatural on goings that took place at Camp Hero back in the 80’s – more widely known as The Montauk Project. I’ll finally be crossing the hike from the Lighthouse to Camp Hero off my bucket list. If I mysteriously disappear, now you know why.

HBO “Girls” Meets the Memory Motel: Rumor has it that the chicks from HBO series “Girls” will be heading to Montauk this fall and filming an episode at The Memory Motel. Although not a fan of this show or the squad on it – I’m curious to see how their late night spent on the dancefloor of MM turns out. Will the hotdog suit wearing tender, Reed, scare Lena Dunham & her opinionated self out of town for good? If not perhaps the $20 cover will.

Soho House: Arguably the only door tougher than The Surf Lodge, Soho House is NYC’s top members only club – opening it’s stalwart doors only to the city’s most influential & trendy within the art & fashion industries. Headshot taken; I’ll be applying this fall aka attempting to breach the threshold. The myth joked amongst urban dwellers is that a member must die for a newbie to be admitted – the fact is this is hardly an exaggeration. Stay tuned to see if @blondeintheboro is welcomed with open arms or left out on the sidewalks of SoHo to take her spunk elsewhere.

THE TAKEAWAY: Summer’s coming to an end (even to my standards) and there’s lots of excitement in the air set to take place this fall. Traveling to be done, charity events to frequent, new hotspots to scope out – needless to say I’ve got my work cut out for me in the city that never sleeps. But hey, somebody’s gotta do it!  Follow me on Insta HERE
