Rod Winterrowd (above) designed “The Hound Cave,” is a summer hang out where anything goes any night of the week in the Hamptons, all dogs are welcome…cats too.

On Saturday, May 24th, leading designers of the East End kicked off Memorial Day weekend showcasing their interiors to raise funds for animals in need at ARF, the Animal Rescue Fund of The Hamptons [www.arfhamptons.org]. The ARF Thrift Shop was transformed into a stunning Designer Showhouse featuring 6 rooms by renowned interior decorators including: John Bjørnen, Suzanne Caldwell and Maria Greenlaw, Byron C. James, Zoe Hoare and Chris Mead, Scott Sanders and Rod Winterrowd.

Each stylish room incorporated ARF Thrift Shop items and pieces donated from the designers own collections available for purchase. Over 200 guests from the Hamptons social and design community attended the special evening. The event was chaired by Gordon Hoppe, Gigi Mahon and Sandra McConnell. By the end of the nearly every item in the designer showhouse had been sold and $73,000 had been raised in support of ARF, the leading animal adoption center on the East End.

Guests sipped cocktails and perused the specially designed rooms, which ranged from a peek into the “Captain’s Cabin” to an “All About Eve” room inspired by the birthday party Margo Channing (Bette Davis) threw for her boyfriend. “SOLD” stickers quickly covered the incredible furniture and decorative items for sale. The evening also included a silent auction featuring exclusive design and animal-themed items and packages. Joining in on the celebration were the true stars of the evening – a selection of ARF dogs and cats available for adoption.

Chris Mead, owner of English Country Antiques in Bridgehampton and Southampton for over 20 years called his room with Zoe Hoare (above) “English Country Style,” creating a "English country" meets "Hamptons" living room using organic neutrals and earthy textures with a touch of eccentric English eclecticism.

The shop is a priority of the organization’s long term strategic planning as almost 20% of ARF’s annual operating budget comes from funds raised by the Thrift Shop. In 2011, the Thrift Shop, a charming Dutch colonial building was renovated and expanded allowing ARF to accept more donations and continue to successfully fund the organization’s animal Adoption Center.

All the designers are animal lovers who are donated their time and expertise to help the ARF cats and dogs, who are less fortunate than their own beloved pets. Unlike traditional showhouses, every item in the ARF designer showhouse is for sale.

Scott Sanders’, “Blue, White & Bailey” room captured the essence of his New American Style with a cool, beachy vibe that has his dog Bailey’s tail wagging in anticipation of the summer months.
