NEW KDHamptons Garden Diary: Are You A Big Pot Lover?

SHARE

Our spring pots are full of color and varieties of different flowers that will bloom for the next month.

Looking for a fun outside project to enjoy this gorgeous weather? It’s time to plant your pretty flower pots to show some porch and poolside flair. Most of the local garden centers are now packed with daisies, pansies, hyacinth, ranunculus, tulips, and more. KDHamptons favorite sources for spring flowers are Lynch’s Garden Center in Southampton, and Halsey Farm in Water Mill. They all have slightly different varieties so it’s fun to source from all three. Get inspired by some of my favorite flower pots below and get your green thumb in gear!

We start with a selection of flowers from Lynch’s Garden Center and Halsey Farms. We usually need to make three runs to have enough to work with.

Most Hamptonites know that my husband Mark is a great doctor, but few people know he is a fantastic gardener. This is good news for me, because I get to enjoy the flowers he plants around our Water Mill home. Each season, Mark can’t wait to plant the spring flower pots around the porch at our Victorian farmhouse. He typically opts for a colorful mix of flower varieties, including: Easter Bonnet Pastel Pansies, Lavender Frost Serenity, Panol Blotch Mix Pansies, and Ranunculus. My potting style is quite different than his [see pix further below] so its fun to compare both results. Here are a few of Dr. Kot’s 2015 Pots:

Dr. Kot is always ready to get his hands dirty in the garden.

My potting style is a bit more monochromatic and “English Garden”. I tend to keep colors and flower varieties organized together, below:

I like to choose one variety and repeat, here I planted three pots with fragrant Lavender.
