The stunning vistas of the Hamptons have long inspired legendary painters including Eric Fischl and Jackson Pollock, but Sag Harbor designer Landon Slane also draws
ideas for her fine jewelry line, SLANE, from her long days spent by the sea…

SLANE designs are hand-cast, hand-assembled and hand-finished. Pearls, earthstones, precious gems and diamonds compliment the foundation of the metal designs. With a commitment to sustainability, recycled sterling silver and recycled 18kt gold are used in all SLANE pieces. Learn more about Landon in her new KDHamptons Fashion Diary below:

KDHamptons: How long have you been coming to the Hamptons? Why do you love it so much?

Landon: I’ve been coming to the Hamptons for over twenty years now. It is such a magical place with the perfect balance of beautiful farmland and ocean. I’m able to completely relax and enjoy nature here, and I spend a lot of time reading, being with friends and family, and cooking. The Hamptons has great yoga and farm stands that are hard to top.

KDHamptons: Please describe the SLANE story in a few lines for our readers.

Landon: My sister Heath and I have a jewelry company called SLANE which we started together 17 years ago. We have been selling for 16 years through 80 independent jewelry stores around the country and online at www.Slane.com

KDHamptons: Describe your perfect Hamptons day in detail?

Landon: I wake up and meditate for 45 minutes if my husband is on duty with Lola. Then a family beach walk or we take turns going to yoga. We might meet at Provisions for breakfast, or make it at home if we’re stocked up in the kitchen. If not, we head to the farmers market to get fresh items for dinner that evening so we can cook at home. We might relax by the pool and then head back to the beach.

On any given weekend we have a house full of guests, so we set up a big lunch on the screen porch – usually corn and tomato sandwiches. I try to sneak in a nap and reading time if I can in the afternoons – the ceiling fans usually lull me to sleep. While I doze, someone heads to Cavagnola’s for cheese and wine. Their cheese beats all others and the wine shop specializes in seconds from top vineyards. Then we head to the beach for sunset and then prepare dinner which comes together as a group effort. Later, we just relax on the porch before bed.

KDHamptons: Personal style: do you have a Hamptons fashion “uniform”? Which designer do you

wear the most out East, and how do you accessorize with your jewelry?

Landon: My fashion uniform is relaxed casual-meets-elegant. I tend to wear a lot of dresses and tunics over white jeans. I have at least five different styles of white jeans! I like tunics by Nili Lotan and just about everything from Henry Lehr. Linen pieces from James Perse are my everyday go-to, and I always swap in a few Calypso dresses for some color. I especially love a dress I found in Tulum from a local designer there. Isabel Marant pieces are my latest love, and I wear them with lots of gold and turquoise in the summer, like my bangles and hoops with my turquoise and gold necklace with leather detailing. And I never leave home without my Ganesh necklace that we designed for Bent on Learning.

KDHamptons: What are the 3 key pieces from the SLANE Spring collection that every haute Hamptonite needs?

Landon: Everyone needs some turquoise. Add an arm full of bangles to bring style to every look, day or night. I’m obsessed with SLANE’s Caberet Hoops, too—they are a flattering oval shape and come with or without some bling.

KDHamptons: How does the Hamptons inspire you when designing your SLANE collection?

Landon: Unwinding in the beautiful surroundings and being with nature are the best for me when designing. I can stare at the ocean for hours and open my mind to new ideas and inspirations.

KDHamptons: Do you like to entertain at home? What’s your “go-to” dinner plan?

Landon: Everyone helps out. Our usual formula is fresh veggies from the farm stands, cheese and wine from Cavangnolas, fish, and some pasta, and a fresh crumble. We like wine, and sometimes Margaritas. We entertain a lot—we love a full house.

KDHamptons: If you could invite three people to your Hamptons home for dinner [dead or alive], whom would you choose?

Landon: This seems to change constantly. Right now it would be the Dalai Lama, because I love his humor. Then I’d ask William Shakespeare to join us, I’m amazed at how he is still so relevant today. Finally, Lena Dunham, because I think she is brilliant and has such a self-deprecating, and clever sense of humor.

KDHamptons: What is your favorite Hamptons restaurant – got a favorite dish & drink you get every time?

Landon: So many great spots! First choice is Tutto il Giorno, where I order linguine al vongole, red wine, Caesar salad or caprese salad. I also love Vine Street for their crab cakes and edamame succotash. Sunset beach with a group of friends is my signature summer dinner; rose, mussels, and tuna tartar. Taking the ferry out there for dinner changes the whole vibe of the evening.
When I’m with my kids, La Fondita is perfect—you can find us at a picnic table in the back.

KDHamptons: What is your little secret about the Hamptons?

Landon: Pony Rides at the Green School in Sagaponack [below]
or hikes at Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island.

KDHamptons: Please describe your Hamptons home and decorating style?

Landon: Our house is very unique. It is a California arts and crafts style house built by two families that were best friends. We have two kitchens that connect and two master bedrooms on the second level that do not connect, so it’s perfect for large families and friends. The true center of our home is a large banquet dining table that seats 12-15 people when fully extended. Opposite the table are two lounging chairs and an African drum. This room is right off the kitchen and beside the screen porch. All the flow and energy of our home is here.
