Katherine Feiner and fiance Daniel Curtis in Sag Harbor

KDHamptons recently caught up with Katherine Feiner, Founder/Head Designer at Katherine Feiner, who spends summers in East Hampton with her fiance, Daniel Curtis, entertaining, paddle boarding, shopping the local farm stands, and taking inspiration from the colorful palette of the East End for her luxe line of clothing. Get to know Katherine in her NEW KDHamptons Fashion Diary, below:

KDHamptons: How long have you been coming to the Hamptons? Why do you love it so much?

Katherine: I grew up on the West Coast, in Los Angeles, so the only beaches I really knew experienced were the beaches of Malibu. When I officially moved to the city from London two years ago, I dove head first into Hamptons summers, and completely fell in love. The food, beaches, people and pace all create this amazing east-coast vibe that’s completely different than Los Angeles. It’s obviously the best possible escape from the city in the summer and a real re-charge after the sweltering heat of the city during the week.

KDHamptons: How would you describe your brand to our readers.

Katherine: The Katherine Feiner brand was created for the woman who values a polished, feminine aesthetic but isn’t afraid to have fun and be whimsical. A core value of the brand is to be able to achieve this design objective and form a high contemporary bridge to couture. We believe in the power of clothing, and the ability that it has to make the wearer feel beautiful, original, and confident. We pride ourselves on our original beaded and embroidered textiles, all created in house at our studio in NYC, and produced through our incredible partners in India. With a background in couture and textiles, it’s always been important to me to introduce a highly stylized, beautifully finished product to the contemporary market.

Personal style: do you have a Hamptons “uniform”? What do you wear the most out East?

Katherine: My Hamptons uniform consists of our “Chloe Cami” (in every single color) and our “Georgina Shorts” in super light-weight washed crepe. You can pretty much catch me wearing this same thing everyday in different color combos. A good pair of jean short cut offs are also necessary (J Brands are my favorite), and my Tori Praver and Zimmerman bikinis are my summer go-tos. I love to mix and match all the tops and bottoms. They’re great! For evening, our black and white backless “Louise Dress” is perfect for pretty much any summer event. I’ve worn it to everything from a back yard BBQ in Sag Harbor, to a wedding Black Tie wedding this summer.

KDHamptons: Describe your perfect Hamptons day in detail?

Katherine: My perfect Hamptons day would consist of getting up at a civilized hour, either making breakfast with coffee outside on the patio, or heading to Babette’s in East Hampton for their Champignon omelette with a mimosa (or two). After that we’d probably hit a farm stand and stock up on yummy peaches and veggies for afternoon snacks. This is normally followed by something on the active side- either a bike ride or paddle boarding in Sag Harbor ~ we recently discovered paddling in Sag after doing it for years back home in Malibu. Love it!! An afternoon at the beach is also always a good idea, and if my fiance is in a surfing mood, we’ll head to Montauk. 4pm- 6pm is generally home downtime. Then off to whatever dinner destination we have planned just in time for sunset.

KDHamptons: What is your favorite Hamptons restaurant, got a favorite dish & drink you get every time?

Katherine: We are big cookers in the summer, especially when we’re out of the city. I love shopping at the farms stands (Pike Farms is my favorite) and checking out what’s the freshest and most delicious. I love making really simple, healthy dinners. When we do venture out, Della Femina is delicious and always a go-to. When we have out of towners visiting, we tend to go the fun seafood route, making a post- beach stop at Clam Bar at Napeague. Byron at Surf Lodge during sunset is also always a big hit, and so beautiful.

KDHamptons: How do you like to entertain at home?

Katherine: My fiancé, Daniel, and I LOVE to entertain at home. When I was living in London we did a dinner party once a week when we were in college that consisted of about 10 or so friends, all pitching in to do a pot-luck style feast. I really got hooked on the intimacy of a dinner party, and how you can literally sit there forever with all your friends, and drink wine, have great home-cooked food and have it be such fun casual environment.

KDHamptons: Are you a great cook? What’s your “go-to” dinner plan?

Katherine: With all the fresh produce and incredible markets in the Hamptons, a dinner party/ BBQ is always our first option for our evenings in the summer. I love to cook, but I have to say that I’m spoiled because my fiancé is also an incredible chef (and is not afraid to cook anything). We recently picked up a bunch of lobsters and had an incredible backyard lobster dinner with a bunch of our friends. We spread newspaper on the table, tucked napkins in our shirts, and everyone just went for it. So much fun! Me, being in charge of side dishes, stayed simple with tomato panzanella salad and grilled corn (all from our local farm stand, of course).

KDHamptons: Got any other interesting projects you are currently working on?

Katherine: Yes, I also work in the publishing side for Robb Report Magazine/Curtco Media, NYC.  And this October, during breast cancer awareness month, I am encouraging Katherine Feiner shoppers to Think Pink with my Chloe Cami in Sorbet, which is 100% silk, and a perfect sexy, feminine layering piece. For every purchase of the Chloe Cami in Sorbet Pink, I will donate 10% of the proceeds to the Young Survival Coalition, helping young woman through their battle with breast cancer. Lastly,  I am busy planning our wedding!
