Once every few years a hot new fashion trend seems to pop up and simply take over the style set in the Hamptons — and this summer is going to be one of those seasons. Get ready to see an army of haute Hamptonites gliding around in LoveShackFancy, a beautiful new collection by former fashion editor Rebecca Hessel Cohen of hand-dyed and printed silk dresses and separates. The look of LoveShackFancy embodies a luxe bohemian lifestyle with whimsical pieces that can take you from Georgica Beach, to an elegant dinner party in Southampton.

The collection evolved from Rebecca’s simple dream of designing the perfect bridesmaid dress for her magical backyard wedding in the Hamptons. “The colors, the light and the salty warm air of the East End inspired my wedding design, with a nod to the South of France… meets Great Gatsby… meets Great Expectations. I truly wanted my bridesmaids to look and feel like ethereal goddesses, dancing barefoot in the garden under the moonlit summer night.”

The diaphanous halter silhouette that was born is now the signature look of LoveShackFancy. It is as versatile and comfortable as it is sexy and romantic. Each dress can be individually styled to fit a wide range of shapes and sizes. Wear the elastic at the waist of under the bust to best complement your body. Rebecca spent months sourcing the best fabrics and designing the perfect pattern for what would soon evolve into an effortless dress that transitions from day to night.  We catch up with fashion’s It Girl of the moment in this NEW KDHamptons Fashion Diary below [and check out our favorite pieces from LoveShackFancy Spring 2014]:

KDHamptons: How would you describe your Hamptons style?

Rebecca: My Hamptons style is beachy, bohemian and effortless. I love romantic, vintage pieces and I love translating them into what I want to wear now!  I’m always running around the Hamptons in our halter love dresses or mini skirts.

KDHamptons: It’s pretty amazing that planning your Hamptons dream wedding led you to launching a fashion line. Can you please share more of the back story?

Rebecca: It is! I started the line when I was planning my Bridgehampton June wedding a few years ago, and I wanted the girls in my wedding to embody this type of style. I didn’t want anything too forced, and even though I was having a black tie tented backyard wedding, I wanted the girls to still have a bohemian and sexy sensibility, but still be fancy enough. Essentially for me it was all about creating silk chiffon gowns that could go from beach to black tie.

KDHamptons: Describe how versatile your dresses are?

Rebecca: You could wear LoveShackFancy dresses over a bikini, or dressed up with heels and you would never feel inappropriate. Its all about how you style the dress, and yourself, but it can easily transform from one style to another. Now that single dress has evolved into a full lifestyle brand  – with beautiful hand dyed colors and prints, lace, and some great wearable styles that you can pull off all year round.

KDHamptons: Gwyneth Paltrow pairs her LSF dress with strappy flats, how do you add your personal dose of style to your dresses when in the Hamptons?

Rebecca: My favorite thing is to throw on a beautiful dress over a bikini and not think twice. To me, it’s all about a summer tan, tousled beach hair, and a beautifully flowing dress. I like to treat silk and lace like denim –the more you wear and wash them and dye them and distress them and bleach them, the better they get!

KDHamptons: LoveShackFancy pieces tend to show a bit of skin, will you be offering more covered up styles this summer?

Rebecca: Yes, most of our dresses are backless, so they show a lot of skin. I always love to highlight a part of the body – weather it’s your shoulders, your back, your legs, your arms. But, we do also have options if you want to be much more covered up – because after just having a baby myself, I totally get that look too!

KDHamptons: Who is the LoveShackFancy girl?

Rebecca: The LoveShackFancy girl can run barefoot through the fields or dance until the sun comes up in her highest heels. Think mellow beach mornings in Tulum, tropical breezy lunches in Belize, sexy cocktails in St. Tropez- the design is modern, romantic and sensual all at once.
