KDHamptons Montauk correspondent, and Navy Beach co- owner, Leyla Marchetto has a lot on her plate ~ literally! Memorial Day weekend at her buzzing beachfront hotspot is jumping and she shares all the details of the big weekend with us below…..

Despite the rainy, un-summery weather over the weekend, it was a fun and busy weekend for all of us in Montauk! On Wednesday & Thursday we were busy getting Navy Beach ready for the weekend ahead, and stocking up the bar and kitchen for the busy holiday “invasion” of customers!

Mini bottles

Mini-bottles of Cep d’Or Rose [375ml] and Chandon Summer [187ml…my favorite beach-bubbly to sip with a straw!] arrived just in time for the weekend, and we decided to dress up the bar with the gorgeous little bottles! My dad [Silvano Marchetto of Da Silvano in Greenwich Village, below] sent me a good-luck with the weekend photo of himself outside the cafe!

On Thursday, my friends Matt and Christy arrived for a few nights with their adorable little one, Emmet! We had a lot of fun just hanging out at home and driving around town in the rain!

On Friday I received our special Navy SEAL Foundation promo-cards just in time to announce our fundraising efforts this summer at Navy Beach. We are hosting a cocktail party fundraiser this coming Saturday June 1st from 4-6pm, and also raising money for the NSF through the July 4th holiday with a dine & donate program at the restaurant.

Then we tasted a few new menu items that afternoon, which we will be adding to the menu this week: Octopus a la Plancha with chorizo, fingerling potatoes, picked serrano and smoked paprika; and the Burrata Fresca with local heirloom tomatoes, prosciutto, crisp basil and aged balsamic…..They were so good!

Saturday morning I got a special delivery from my friend Farmer Frank from Amagansett’s Bhumi Farm [above] of an adorable flat of micro-greens! It was a nice surprise on another rainy day….I’m excited to be a member of his CSA this summer so I can get fresh local produce every week from now on through September :)

Saturday afternoon I headed over to the restaurant for the Wine Awesomeness launch party for photographer Ben Watts’ new rosé, aptly named “WattsUp Rosé”, where we had guest DJ Andrew Smith aka Misawa spinning in the bar while guests enjoyed (lots & lots) of the new rosé, which comes from Spain’s Rioja region. The rain did not stop the fun! You can even order your own 3-pack of the rosé online right here!

I headed home after the party and found another extra special delivery from Bella at Dock to Dish! What a treat. The awesome cooler bag was stuffed with a cookbook, t-shirt, CCOM Membership, 2 pounds of monkfish [from fisherman Vincent Damm aboard The Sequel], and a cedar plank to cook it on. Dock to Dish is a new locally run CSF [Community Supported Fishery] run by local fishermen Rudi Bonicelli & Sean Barrett. I’m thrilled to be one of their founding members this season, and can’t wait to see what fresh “catch of the day” I will be picking up in Amagansett each Saturday! Thanks guys :)

After the dinner rush ended, I headed back to Navy Beach to grab a bite with my husband and Martin, and some friends eating in the bar. We nibbled on some of our Shrimp & Corn Fritters [with truffle maple dipping syrup, below] while drinking some more rosé! People were having a great time that night, and I saw a lot of tables eating our new Lobster & Clam Bake – its getting rave reviews!

On Sunday I laid-low at home, and made myself some avocado toast [above] inspired by the Gwyneth Paltrow feature in the premiere issue of Beach Magazine…..I added some Thai Ginger salt from The Filling Station to it and it was oh so yummy! Sunday night Nancy Atlas [below] played a sunset set in the bar at Navy Beach but I missed it :( Luckily she will be playing a set again in honor of the Navy SEAL Foundation at this Saturday’s fundraiser, and I will NOT be missing that one!

Monday turned out to be the nicest day of the long weekend, and we had a busy lunch at the restaurant with people finally being able to eat outside! It was a great way to end the weekend!
