KDHamptons: How long have you been coming to the Hamptons? Why do you love it so much?

Lloyd Princeton: I’ve been coming to the Hamptons for more than a decade. I used to own a house on Shelter Island and recently thought that I would try living on the mainland this time, so I rented a Southampton home on Wooley Pond. I love the physical beauty of the East End, it’s a pleasure just to drive around and see what people have done with their properties. Then there is the ocean….omg, walks on the beach are just dreamy for me and my dog Keiko just loves it too.

KDHamptons: How would you describe your Hamptons home?

Lloyd: I live in a 1920’s cottage that has a great room which was the former music hall for the Captain Rose Estate. The home is decorated with a lot of period art an object d’ art, original paintings, watercolors, porcelains, hunting memorabilia, you name it! It’s a very unique home. The sunsets overlooking Wooley Pond are just dreamy…..and I am lucky that I get to watch them from my home.

KDHamptons: How would you describe your perfect Hamptons day in detail?

Lloyd: I take my dog Keiko for a walk first thing, usually along Long Beach near Sag Harbor. Then I get to work at my desk, lots of phone calls and e-mails. I frequently have lunch at home. Depending upon my mood, I might work out in the morning or late afternoon at the Southampton Rec Center off of Majors Path.  Or, if Keiko is lucky, we go to the amazing Southampton Village Dog Park, which usually involves errands as well: the Post Office, going to the Rogers Memorial Library [one of the best I’ve ever been in], Citarella or Schmidt’s. During the winter, I like to cook, or perhaps have dinner with a friend, I never have a set plan.

KDHamptons: Do you like to entertain at home? What’s your “go-to” dinner party plan?

Lloyd: I love to entertain at home and I do the cooking! I’m pretty good at looking up recipes online and mostly follow them, although I have no problem taking liberties with ingredients. I really don’t have a go-to menu, it just depends on what I’ve bought that day. I always cook with fresh local produce, and prepare great salads and grilled veggies for my guests.

KDHamptons: What is your favorite Hamptons restaurant and dish?

Lloyd: I love the cozy Italian restaurant, Cappelletti’s, on Noyak Road in Sag Harbor.  Their mussels are amazing, and the warm fresh baked garlic knots are too good.

KDHamptons: After you match clients to a designer, what is the next step?

Lloyd: We also review the contracts used to govern projects in order to minimize the potential for conflict and misunderstanding, which can so easily derail a project if they’re not properly articulated. I’ve spent my whole career on both sides of the proverbial fence – on the client side and the designer side, so I can navigate the needs of both parties to make a project successful.

KDHamptons:  You recently shot a television pilot called Matched By Design, will it be airing this season?

Lloyd: At this stage, MBD has not been picked up for a series, but the pilot is a lot of fun! Here is a link if you are interested in looking at it:  https://imatchdesigners.box.com/s/989877xqivxmaevy5omo

KDHamptons: Please share some photos of your recent design projects with our readers?

KDHamptons: If you could design a dream home for anyone in the world [dead or alive], whom would you choose?

Lloyd: If I were to have designed a dream home for someone, I would like to have designed for Pablo Picasso. An  environment that would have reflected his art and the light. The  furnishings  functional, of the highest quality and showcasing the artwork. The environment would revolve around the  constantly changing artwork  and the artistic bohemian joie de vivre lifestyle. Entertaining areas, verandas to enjoy, open spaces that inspire conversation, maybe a stage and a huge studio where you can see everything. That would have been a lovely place to design.
