A Memoir of Friendship, Fashion, and Forever Memories: Elyce Arons’ We Might Just Make It After All
Elyce Arons, co-founder of Kate Spade and Frances Valentine and longtime Bridgehampton resident, has just released a heartfelt and humorous memoir, We Might Just Make it After All. The new book offers a deeply personal glimpse into her decades-long best friendship with the late designer Kate Spade. Woven throughout the memoir are memories of the many carefree summers they shared out East, where the Hamptons became not just a backdrop, but a meaningful part of their story.
In one vivid memory, Arons recalls a visit to Katy and Andy Spade’s farmhouse on Sagg Main Street, where the friends would spend lazy afternoons picnicking in the field and idyllic evenings under trees. One evening, after dinner beneath an old oak, Katy climbed the tree on a dare – only to knock out a crown on her way down. The book is filled with moments like this – warm, funny, and richly textured snapshots of a life well-lived.
We Might Just Make It After All has been featured in The New York Times, People, Fashionista, and L’Officiel, with widespread praise for its honesty, wit, and emotional depth. Booklist called it “a memoir readers will adore…the loving essence of friendship reverberates throughout,” while Bobbi Brown described it as “a beautiful book” that perfectly captures Elyce and Katy’s friendship. Brooke Shields adds, “At its core, the book explores profound love and loss, and the story will stay with you long after you turn the last page. I could not put it down.”
Arons will appear at the East Hampton Library’s Author’s Night on August 9, followed by a talk at The Church in Sag Harbor on August 10. Additional events will take place at the Frances Valentine store in Sag Harbor. Signed copies of the memoir will be available at Sag Harbor Books, BookHampton, and Barnes & Noble in Bridgehampton.
