Lisa gives private dog training lessons and behavior consultations in the Hamptons and Montauk. She is currently working on a new coffee table book, “Hampton Dogs”, of which a portion of the proceeds will benefit the local animal shelters. She lives with her two rescue dogs “Jay-J” a Dalmatian, and “Saffy”, a hairless Chinese Crested.

KDH caught up with Lisa to find out the top five dog spots on the East End:

Lisa Hartman’s top 5 dog friendly places in the Hamptons (So good, I hate to give them up!):

1.  Old Town Beach, Southampton: A rather wide expanse of ocean beach, bringing great off season running room for your canine companion. (Ocean Beach Bridgehampton and Ditch Plains Montauk also good).

2.  Rose Elliston Park, Southampton: Beautiful marked walking trails through the woods and forestland for leashed dogs and their owners. Open year round. Equally enjoyable is Munns’ Pond Reserve in Hampton Bays near the Wildlife Care Center, but be careful not to get lost!

3.  Cow Point, End of North Sea Road: An all season bay beach with calm waters on Little Peconic Bay. You may see ten dogs at a time in the water, and the back of Scallop Pond nature reserve creates a barrier to help keep dogs on the beach.

4.  Springs Park, East Hampton: Tucked away in the artistic community known as “Springs” is acres among acres of dog friendly terrain, all fenced in! Walking paths for the owners and plenty of room for socialization and play for the pups.

5.  Main Street, Southampton: Almost every store on Main Street is ready to shower your pet with cookies and has a cool bowl of water available to quench their thirst.
Of course have fun, be congenial, and clean up after your pet so we may always have these pet friendly places to enjoy.
