Krieg's Bake Shop: Could This Be The Best Bakery In The Hamptons?

SHARE

How far would you taste buds let you drive for the perfect Cannoli?

KDH? I’m game for the easy drive along Old Montauk Highway over the bridge to Hampton Bays for a visit to Krieg’s Bake Shop~ one of my favorite “old school” pastry shops on the East End.

Baking perfect pastries runs in the Krieg clan. Fourth generation baker, Walter Krieg has been kneading the dough Hamptonites devour since 1985. His dad, Walter senior, was a chemist for national baked goods brands and passed on his secret recipes to junior.

Walter and his sweet wife Sonya happily run the sweet-smelling shop greeting most of their customers by name and a friendly nod signifying: “The usual?”.  While KDH was busy picking out my morning danish, I overheard a hungry husband plead, “Oh nooo, the crumb danish is already gone? Well, now I can’t go home to my wife.” These are serious pastry connoisseurs…

Along with the crumb danish, my vote for the tastiest treats at Krieg’s Bake Shop are:

*the cannoli

*the crumb buns

*apple fritters

*jelly donuts

*challah bread
