Throughout the month of February, more than 1,000 young artists from Eastern Long Island public, private, parochial, and home schools will experience seeing their work in a museum setting at the annual Student Exhibition—a 60-year tradition at the Parrish Art Museum. Nearly 300 works of art by students under the direction of dedicated art teachers from Brookhaven to East Hampton will be on display in the Museum’s special exhibition galleries from Saturday, February 1 through Sunday, March 2.

The exhibition includes: sculpture, photography, drawings, costume design, and paintings in many styles and media. Elementary and middle schools enter group projects; high school artists are represented by individual works as well as collaborative projects. Once again this year, artist Neill Slaughter, a professor of Visual Art at Long Island University, will present awards to recognize select high school seniors for their exceptional talent and skill, in categories ranging from painting to costume design. “Ones to Watch” honors are given to underclassmen.

“The Parrish Art Museum’s annual Student Exhibition is an explosion of youthful exuberance, limitless imagination, and boundless creativity,” said Parrish Museum Director Terrie Sultan. “We are always thrilled to welcome the talented, enthusiastic students from our extended community to show their work in the museum. The Student Exhibition is a microcosm of the Parish Art Museum’s legacy of connection and continuity, bringing together many facets of our diverse region including local residents, young and established artists, and members of the business, professional and academic communities.”
