The beautiful Baker House 1650 is one of my absolute favorite places to visit in the Hamptons. Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend getaway, or the chicest summer suite to rent every weekend this summer, the Baker House might be the closest thing to perfection on the East End.  Nestled in the village of East Hampton, The Baker House 1650 is a historic masterpiece showcasing 17th Century Cotsworld-inspired architecture mixed with the homey aura of a superb English manor. Don’t be fooled by the antique setting, The Baker House 1650 offers every modern accommodation, convenience, and amenity you could possibly need.

Fall fun for Hamptonites should always include a little “staycation” at the Baker House. Even though I live 20 minutes away in Water Mill, an overnight here is so relaxing and indulgent, it feels like I actually went on a mini vacation.  For this sleepover, I brought my nephew and super fun travel buddy, Brady [below].

The Baker Carriage House [above] is quaintly tucked behind the main house, and was part of the original Baker House property dating back to 1883, housing the family’s horses and carriages. By the mid 20th century, after many years of disuse, it had fallen into a sad state of disrepair. In 1957, The Carriage House was purchased by Jeremiah Goodman, the renowned interior design illustrator and artist and in 2008, the Carriage House underwent a meticulous renovation, with an absolute respect for the home’s architectural origins, to create the exceptional accommodations that exist today.

We stayed in the Polo Room, which is located in the Carriage House.

The original barn and hay doors, wrought iron staircase, and slate & wooden floors were all retained. The décor was created to complement the home’s own inherent clean, comfortable aesthetic and to honor its casual charm. Every room you wander into at the Baker House and Carriage house has unique and inspiring architectural details to fall in love with.

The Baker House 1650 was chosen by Conde Nast, as the “Most Excellent Inn of the Americas” for three years, and was named “Inn of the Month” by Travel and Leisure Magazine. Town and Country magazine says the cottage “offers the kind of plush accommodations that you’d expect to find in an area famous for its residential real estate.”

Some of the Baker House amenities include: The Baker Breakfast [the blueberry pancakes are perfection!], The Baker Spa, an endless swimming pool, beautiful picturesque gardens, Hampton ocean and bay beaches, free passes to the nearby East Hampton gym, The Bakers Bar, a computer station with wifi and printing access, a library and more…

Descend down the mahogany paneled staircase in the main building to discover the Baker House Spa [below], a magical space with an endless swimming pool, sauna, steam shower, and jacuzzi. Although modern in every aspect, it seems to have always been there. The flooring was created with multi-hued Chinese limestone. To create the showers, brick arches supporting the sout chimney were enclosed in glass. The result is an intimate, inviting space for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. The facilities at the Baker Spa are complimentary for all guests, who also may reserve the spa for private use, massages, facials and treatments.
