“I would say that my Hamptons summer was a summer of extremes: Extremely brilliant weather, extremely delicious dinners and extremely bad drivers,” shares East Hampton writer and consultant, Martha McCully [above, right], who began her love affair with the Hamptons in 1980, “when King Cullen was a Drive-In movie theater”.  Martha shares a Five Minute Summer Diary with KDHamptons, below:

KDHamptons: What were the top highlights of your Hamptons summer?

Martha McCully: My highlights included Bill Clinton photo bombing my photo (well, actually it was a selfie, see pic), dinner at my friends the Raias house with the chef from Il Mulino cooking stuffed langoustine and clams in the outdoor oven, and dinner at Laura Donnelly’s “camp” at Lazy Point, an incredible meal in a spectacular setting. Was that all food-related? I go to Laurie Cole’s spin class to burn it all off, and pick up a big bunch of peonies at the East Hampton farmer’s market on the way home.

KDHamptons: What was your favorite Hamptons restaurant this summer? Cocktail spot?

Martha: My favorite restaurant was actually found on the North Fork (hate to say it), Caci. So worth the ferry rides. Yummy hand made pasta with veal bolognese. My favorite drinks spot is Wiborg Beach.

KDHamptons: What are your favorite things to do in the fall season?

Martha: I love being able to drive to Montauk without traffic. I also go to Yard Sale, a vintage shop that specializes in antique housewares, and other collectible treasures. and hang out with the owner, Vincent Manzo. I go to the beach and watch the moon rise. There’s a group of people who are always on Wiborg doing the same thing. We’re all friends now.
