Art dealer and Sagaponack resident Edward Tyler Nahem recently hosted a dinner in honor of artist Andres Serrano following his acclaimed solo exhibit at the Armory Fair.

On Friday evening, March 9th, the East End art connoisseur hosted the private glamorous dinner in the sake room of Matsuri in the Maritime Hotel in NYC. During the special evening Mr. Nahem made an eloquent toast to Mr. Serrano, noting how many people from around the world [including the Hamptons!] were present to salute the artist. It was his first solo show in New York City in over five years.

Andres Serrano’s Anarchy series was the toast of the Armory Fair, with collectors from the U.S., Europe, and Asia purchasing works. The series is comprised of photographs that are challenging, gripping and, true to the artist, somewhat controversial. As the artist himself states, “Anarchy subverts the innocence of childhood by using the archetypes of early youth to explore a sinister world of make believe. It is the invented universe of the young mind and the old mind as it straddles the line between the conscious and the unconscious, the playful and the critical, the rational and the unconscionable.”

Guests at the dinner included Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, singer Bebel Gilberto, Tom Freston, Van Cleef and Arpels president and CEO Nicolas Bosand his wifeVirgine, Serrano’s wife Irina Movmyg, Scene magazine editor-in-chief Peter Davis, art critic Germano Celant, Michele Gerber Klein, and Damiani publisher Andrea Albertini. Prominent collectors included Beth DeWoody, Sherry and Joel Mallin, Stuart Pivar with wife Larimore Hampton, DIA Beacon co-founder Bil Ehrlich, and Francois Meyer.
