KDH recently caught up with Mark Cornell [below], CEO of Edmiston Yachts, at a glamorous party aboard the recently renovated Highlander which was aptly docked in the Sag Harbor marina amongst the mega yachts of the Hamptons. From celebrities, to socials, moguls, and international polo starts~ this was the best party of the weekend. Sipping sunset cocktails aboard the Highlander in the Sag Harbor marina? That’s a perfect Hamptons magic moment. Check out my KDHamptons photo diary from the party and learn more about Edmiston Yachts in Mark Cornell’s interview below:

KDHamptons: You left the world of LVMH to join the Edmiston team. What inspired the move?

Mark Cornell: To become an entrepreneur, work for a leading comany within the fast growing luxury industry, and to work with yachts

KDH: Have you always been a yachtsman?

MC: Yes, I learned to sail at a young age. I had the good fortune to sail throughout my childhood. I have had little time recently, but being on water is a great passion of mine.

KDH: Can you tell KDH readers about the most beautiful yacht in the world?

MC: I have had the pleasure of visiting two lately, the Virginian and Bluebird. Both breathtaking but different in many respects. Both capture the style, fun and the relaxed sophistication of the original classic motorboats.

KDH: The luxury market and spender is clearly back in the Hamptons. Have you seen an increase in yachts being built?

MC: Actually we have seen a bigger demand worldwide for Edmiston, and we are keen to develop business in this fabulous part of the U.S.

KDH: Why is the Hamptons community such a great fit for the Edmiston brand?

MC: [jokingly] Haven’t Americans always enjoyed big things? And we are super big.”

KDH: Okay, so we want our own super big yacht. How long will it take to build it?

MC: It takes 3 years to build a yacht.

KDH: What are some of the most outrageous requests that clients have made for a custom yacht?

MC: Helicopters, spas and home entertainment cinemas have become par for the course. As far as WOW factors, we have built a submarine and a recording studio. Edmiston offers to “place clients in the strongest possible position, whatever their needs and requirements, power and sail, classic and contemporary, from 30 meters to upwards of 100 meters.”
