Justin Ward Metal Designs [JWMD] is a metal design and fabrication company based in the Hamptons, specializing in customized, above-ground swimming pools.  Owner Justin Ward [below] says, “With regard to conceptual and design elements of homes, as well as estates, the swimming pool is often relegated to something of an afterthought in terms of priorities.  Many homeowners are confounded by the limitations of town and village zoning restrictions and prohibitions. What does one do when building their dream home only to be informed that they are not allowed to construct an in-ground swimming pool? JWMD has the answer.”

This was precisely the impetus for creating an original ‘Floating Gem’ swimming pool. Cantilevered out of the ground, made of steel, stone, glass, acrylic, and mahogany–the 360 degree pool combines utility with the aesthetic sensibility of an object of architectural art.

A striking design, the ‘Floating Gem’s’ carriage can be made of steel or aluminum. The measurements of the entire structure are 48 x 15 feet, which includes the decking around the actual pool (32 x 8 feet). Made of two visible sides of acrylic as well as the full length of the bottom, surrounded by the exotic hardwood mahogany decking, finished with a glass border.

Additional attributes of the ‘Floating Gem,’ include a cutting-edge filtration system that utilizes H3Zone that produces fresh water with NO added chemicals. And perhaps most importantly, the ‘Floating Gem’ provides full transparency for parental oversight when kids are in the pool. Dodds and Eder in Sag Harbor recently hosted a packed launch party the “Floating Gem” where guests were able to view a model of the pool and receive a descriptive tour from Justin.

“With in-house landscape and lighting designers, JWMD can provide clients the necessary expertise and resources in realizing their ideal visions − literally, one’s imagination is the only limitation in what can be done to create a truly one-of-a-kind environment in which form and function marry art and architecture in swimming pool design,” says Ward.
