When a West Coast family purchased a Quogue home sight unseen during the height of the pandemic, they knew they had found the perfect location – but the house itself needed a complete transformation. To bring their vision to life, they enlisted Kevie Murphy of K.A. Murphy Interiors, the full-service interior design firm known for creating refined, livable homes that balance beauty with function. A former trial attorney, Murphy brings a unique combination of organization, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail to every project, helping clients navigate complex renovations with ease.

“I’ve always loved the Quogue project because it feels so special and a little unexpected,” says Murphy. “It’s this really cool, tucked-away area where you’re only there if you actually live there, which gives it a sense of privacy that’s hard to find. You’re close to Westhampton, but it still feels quiet and personal, which made it such a great setting to design for.”

The year-long renovation transformed a formal, traditional residence into a welcoming getaway designed for relaxed summer living. Created with a serene, minimalist aesthetic, the home was thoughtfully tailored to accommodate the family’s many visiting relatives throughout the summer. Practical yet beautiful details include a custom cerused white oak dining table that seats twelve, an octagonal sitting area reimagined with a custom sofa that follows the room’s unique angles, and a cheerful bunkroom featuring custom bunks for siblings, cousins, and friends. Soft blue and green accents, from the entry’s Country Carpet rug to the custom stair runner, bring a sense of coastal calm, while vibrant turquoise tile and sunshine-yellow touches add a playful element to the children’s spaces.

For Murphy and her team, the project perfectly reflects the firm’s philosophy of creating homes that feel both elevated and deeply personal. Based in Long Island with offices in Manhattan and Manhasset, the all-female-owned-and-operated studio is known for translating each client’s lifestyle into spaces that are timeless, thoughtful, and built to be lived in. In Quogue, that vision came to life through a home that feels effortlessly welcoming – a place designed for summers by the beach, entertaining with family, and truly enjoying the setting.
