Hooked to Open in Montauk: Fresh Takeout Seafood for the Whole Family

SHARE

A new seafood take out spot, Hooked, will open in Montauk May 1st. Brought to you by Brian and Gillian Mooney, Hooked moves into the space formerly occupied by Red Hook Lobster Pound located at 34 South Etna Ave. Brian, a 24-year veteran of the iconic Clam Bar at Napeague, is an expert shucker and has tight relationships with local fisherman availing him of the freshest local seafood right off the boats. His wife Gillian is no stranger to the food business having been a co-owner of a landmark deli, Herb’s Market for over a decade.

Hooked features an open kitchen with counter service and picnic tables outside on the patio to enjoy your order. The interior space has a beachy feel with warm reclaimed woods and nautical décor.

The menu features seafood, salads and land fare. The starters section, or “bait & lures,” includes chowders – New England, Manhattan, crab & corn and lobster bisque; tuna bites; fried calamari; steamed mussels; and peel and eat shrimp. Salads to choose from include house salad with kale quinoa, cranberries, cojita cheese and orange segments with a cranberry citrus vinaigrette, and a beet and arugula salad with blood orange and shallot vinaigrette.

Hooked BBQ Ribs

If you are “hooked on lobster” order a lobster roll; tom lob – vine ripened tomato stuffed with lobster salad; lobster mac & cheese; or a whole steamed lobster. The “locally hooked” section of the menu features grilled tuna, swordfish or mahi mahi, a tuna poke bowl and fish tacos. If you are looking for raw bar items the “locally dug” section will catch your attention with Montauk pearl oysters, local clams and local steamers.

Boats with fries are your fried seafood platters with options such as fish ‘n’ chips, fried shrimp, fried soft shell crab, fried scallops, fried clams and more. Finally, the “off the hook” section is your land fare with a burger, BBQ baby back ribs, grilled chicken sandwich and a veggie burger.

The little guppies are not forgotten with fish bites; chicken goujons; grilled cheese; and a hot dog for the wee ones. Prices range from $6 – 19 for starters and $10 – $25 for main dishes. The signature dessert item will be a housemade tiramisu.
