East Hampton just got a little more beautiful. After reopening its doors on June 11, The Hedges Inn has officially debuted a stunning redesign by celebrated designer and author David Netto, and the results are as charming, sophisticated, and quintessentially East Hampton as one might imagine.

A beloved village landmark since 1873, The Hedges Inn has long been known for its welcoming atmosphere and historic character. Rather than reinventing the iconic property, Netto focused on elevating what guests already love most: creating interiors that feel layered, residential, and effortlessly elegant.

Owner and CEO Sarah Wetenhall partnered with Netto to bring a renewed sense of warmth and refinement to the 12-room inn, while preserving the intimate spirit that has made The Hedges a Hamptons favorite for generations. The redesign blends antique and vintage finds with custom furnishings, tailored upholstery, and artisanal details that feel collected over time rather than carefully curated.

One of the most talked-about additions is a custom hand-painted de Gournay wall covering in the parlor, created collaboratively by Wetenhall and Netto. Inspired by East Hampton’s beaches, historic homes, and natural beauty, the scenic mural is filled with local references and personal touches that celebrate life on the East End.

The beloved Swifty’s at The Hedges also received a refresh, with a redesigned bar, enhanced restaurant flow, and a stronger connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, perfect for everything from a leisurely morning coffee to sunset cocktails.

For Netto, the project was particularly meaningful. Having grown up in East Hampton, he describes the redesign as a homecoming of sorts, bringing new life to one of the village’s most recognizable landmarks while honoring its deep roots in the community.

The result is a beautifully reimagined inn that feels both timeless and fresh, offering guests an elevated hospitality experience with unmistakable East Hampton charm. The Hedges Inn is officially open for the season, and looking better than ever.
