Makeup Makeover: KDH Tries Out The New Tom Ford Face!
When KDH found out that Tom Ford has launched his first beauty collection, I could not wait to get to Bergdorfs to check out every product! I zipped in to Manhattan for a girls weekend to see my pals Lara, Rita, and Genifer and made a beauty pit stop at Bergdorf Goodman to meet with Keke Cargill Cifferellowho is the resident makeup artist for Tom Ford Beauty. Keke shared Tom’s philosophy behind the line and whipped up a fresh new fall beauty scheme for me, tailored for the natural Hamptons look. When I lived in NYC full-time it was fun to wear a dramatic smokey eye for day, or a colored mascara, or a bright lip, but those bold looks don’t fly out on the East End! The Hamptons look is decidedly more natural, soft and pretty.
Have a look at what Keke suggested for me and all of the haute Hamptonites who read KDH!
KDHamptons: What makes Tom Ford Beauty different than other makeup lines?
Keke Cargill Cifferello: Here at Tom Ford we wanted to provide our clients with the ultimate experience of luxury and effective makeup application. In my opinion this is the only true luxury brand in the cosmetic industry. I have shopped other brands and feel we have a very different approach to makeup application from anyone else. Tom Ford says, “Makeup is the most potent way for a woman to transform herself, it is how she achieves true glamour and makes a fashion statement with her face”.
KDH: How was it to work with Tom? What happened when he recently came to BG for the launch?
KCC: I was on the Estée Lauder team in 2006, when we previewed a collection for Mr. Ford. That time along with this experience was so memorable, it was mayhem! One of the most successful launches in BG history. He was so gracious, so funny and so approachable as usual. What a genius!! He had a meeting with our team before going out to meet the guests, and he wanted us to know that he had everything to do with every product that was here. It had to be perfect!
KDH: Why did Tom Ford decide to create a makeup line now?
KCC: Mr. Ford said he’s always aspired to do makeup. At the event he told WWD, “I’ve always loved makeup, and every time I’ve developed a fashion collection, I’ve given a lot of thought to the hair and makeup — because that’s your character for that season,” he explained.
KDH: What is the price range for Tom Ford Beauty?
KCC: The collection ranges from $30 for our nail lacquers [the most popular color is “bitter bitch,” a deep-rich dark chocolate nail polish] to my favorite product in the line which is an intensive infusion concentrate extreme that gives immediate luminosity and radiance for $250.
KDH: Who and what inspires the line?
KCC: Mr. Ford believes in individual beauty, in my opinion, instead of women all looking the same or trying to look alike. We are setting a standard here, revolutionizing this industry by saying start being you, there are no rules. What inspires me is an individualized beauty application approach, I thrilled to be a part of this awesome team!
KDH: A lot of our readers don’t have time to make it into Manhattan, it’s great that you will work
with clients over the phone or by email. Please share your contact info with KDHamptons readers?
