Southampton's Sofia Musacchia: Under 10 And Already Published!

SHARE

KDH loves discovering new artists, so we were thrilled to find out about Southampton’s youngest published author, Sofia Musacchia, an expressive nine year old who turned to writing and illustrating at age seven to reflect upon her challenges transitioning from first to second grade at Horace Mann in NYC. “A Dog’s Tail Will Not Wag” has quickly become a constant in toddlers libraries across the Hamptons.

Wondering how a kid becomes a famous author? Sofia’s mom, Rose, helped her submit her story to AuthorHouse (TM), an author-solutions book publishing company; they not only loved the book, but published it with no changes! AuthorHouse spearheaded marketing for the title, while Rose helped secure distribution in the Hamptons. KDH purchased our “Dog’s Tail” at the Ralph Lauren children store in East Hampton.

Mom says Sofia may have found her footing by capturing her feelings on paper, but success hasn’t changed her. This little animal lover donates her book’s earnings to animal shelters, mainly “Arf” in East Hampton (Arfhamptons.org). Sofia also dotes on her own dog, Romeo, a chocolate brown English Cocker Spaniel. “She was dog in a previous life!” muses mom.

You can find Sofia this summer at Hampton Country Day Camp, most likely participating in theater. At home, she loves to play sports with her brother, and works on perfecting her S’mores recipe.

“A Dog’s Tale Will Not Wag” is available at Amazon.com. Look out for Sofia’s upcoming tween tome next year, about a cardinal who struggles with the fact that he has different colored feathers than his parents.
